“fantastic time”

We booked a weekend break to celebrate my mother's birthday ( and we have 2 pre-school children too!) and I was a bit apprehensive after reading some of the reviews even though we did get a really good deal through travelzoo. However Ishouldn't have worried as we had the most fantastic time.

The hotel facilities for us were perfect - nice grounds to walk in, an outdoor childrens play area, and indoor soft play area and a great indoor swimming pool. In addition the location of the hotel is perfect (if you love the lakes) as there are 4 good walks from Elterwater on your doorstep which means not having to use the car once you have arrived. There are also lots of short walks/trails and footpaths (again from the hotel) which are perfect and good fun for a 2 and 4 yr old (even when its snowing!)

All the facilities/staff and areas were of a high standard as well as being sympathetic to children and it seems very much a family orientated place. The food and bars were excellent and the staff were very helpful. We all loved it and can't wait to return.

“GOOD WEEKEND BREAK”

Langdale Hotel

26 Mar 2008

Location really lovely.
Leisure facilities were good..
We were aware that there was a refurbishment programme in place.Fortunately we were allocated a refurbished room, freshly decorated with a new bathroom .
Room was clean but needed the carpet, especially the edging and skirting boards cleaning.
We ate in Purdey's Restaurant-absolutely delicious!
All in all a really enjoyable two night break.
Would we go back? Not sure.
I think as the tourist season progresses they will need to check that the cleanliness standards are upheld, if not, improved upon.

Ominously as it turned out -we were given room 101 in the main complex. This room was not fit for a £15 per night B&B let alone a luxury £150 per night rate. No water supplied in the rooms. The furniture had appalling stains and torn fabric, the headboard - again stained, the curtains hanging off the rail the wallpaper peeling. An absolute horror. We contacted both duty managers. The first one gave us a bottle of cheap wine and said sorry. The second one just said sorry but we are renovating. Still not OK -but we booked in Oct 2007 so something could have been done. He offered us better accomodation on our next stay - but with no discount so in other words - he offered us nothing at all. Food was average, staff- predominantly east european, friendly but lost in on a rudderless ship. This is a poor place with poor management and a penchant for cutting corners. Photos to follow

This hotel has an excellent location, with fantastic views from whatever direction you look! A warm welcome at reception and by all the staff we encountered on our stay. Lovely leisure club, very clean, staff a little less warm here although this seems to be common among the sporty types!! The food in Purdys restaurant was fantastic. The rooms were very large and spacious with the excellent air baths which had to be a highlight of the stay. Overall a very nice experience and we will definately be going back!

“Couldn't wait to leave”

Langdale Hotel

I can't put my finger on why I disliked this hotel so vehemently, it was just a sense of unease that made me want to leave asap. Maybe someone had died in our room, I don't know! Our first room smelt "odd", not paricularly unpleasant, just odd and gave me the creeps. The room's furnishings were standard in a Travelodge kind of way, and the bathroom looked newly fitted (although there was a p*** hair in our bath and the loo leaked at the bottom - yuk! - however they did move us to a different room without any problem). The hotel setting is in amongst lots of trees and under a mountain, so it was always dark and gloomy. Our room was in an annex which meant a wet walk to breakfast. Also it was on the ground floor which meant I didn't feel comfortable sleeping with the window open. In our second room, the hairdryer didn't work and the shower in the morning was a tepid trickle - when I pointed this out to reception they smiled knowingly and said that because a large coach party had all got up early there wouldn't be much water - hardly our fault though!! My partner said that the cooked breakfast was very good although I just felt too ill at ease to face it either day!
