We visited this old country house for a last minute birthday treat in November. We got the last room in the place and although it had not yet been refurbished it was warm and very spacious and the view was fabulous. The welcome was warm and the open fire was always lit. Tea and coffee were available in the lounge at all times.

We would very definitley return and in time the new management should have all of the rooms up to date.

The dinner was a splendid affair of 5 courses all for a supplement of £20, excellent value! Seconds were offered for pudding!

However, the true sign of a classy and welcoming hotel was being offered soldiers with my boiled egg! What service! Fantastic! Loved it!

The Location of this hotel is very good stunning views, our room was not a superior one so was a little small. The main grip was no tea/coffee making facilities in the room. I like a cuppa when I wake up and especially when away as I am sure most people do. I am not inclined to having to trudge downstairs to get one. I also can never understand why put a TV in the room that only has a fuzzy picture? Lastly my wife is veggie and when asked for a cooked breakfast alternatives for a cooked breakfast were not available, so all that arrived was a portion of scrambled eggs a table spoon of mushrooms and half a tomato. I loved the view from the hotel but will not be going back as there are so many other hotels out there and most doing it better than this.

This hotel is in a great location with superb views and away from the crowds and the noise. Perfect for hikers and cyclists who visit this area for the countryside.

The bedroom was basic but very clean, warm and had a comfortable bed.

The staff were all very friendly and we were made to feel very welcome as soon as we arrived.

The meals at night were excellent - all freshly produced, the menu changed every night and uniquely guests were given the chance of "seconds" with any desserts which had not been eaten.

A very homely atmosphere and we would definately return.

My husband and I, our 3yr old and 1yr old arrived after a horrendous journey to be warmly greeted and well looked after!

The food and accomodation were excellent. There was plenty of space for an extra bed and a travel cot in our room and the 5 course meals were as good as any restaturant. And the waiting staff were very good with the children.

When our oldest son was taken ill with a high fever the proprietors called the local doctors and made arrangements for us and brought meals to our room.

We would highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed here in autumn 2005 for one night, booked at short notice and it wasn't cheap so we were expecting something above average. The hotel is in a lovely position and the communal areas were pleasant enough but the bedroom was very disappointing. I suspect we had the last and consequently least well-appointed room in the hotel, as looking at their website the other rooms depicted look relatively pleasant. The furniture was slightly shabby and the whole room looked as if it needed refurbishment, particularly the bathroom which was very basic, didn't have a shower and had old-fashioned fittings that looked as if they had been there since the 50s. Whilst I realise we may have drawn the short straw in the room choice, that should have been reflected in the price. It may be that the place has been refurbished since we stayed - I hope so.
