The hotel is in a fantastic location and has some great views, with a nice pub (the Britannia) within easy walking distance. Once inside, however, it is clear that very little has changed in the last few decades (with the possible exception of the wireless internet) - check out the photo gallery on the website for further evidence. The beautiful views were somewhat spoilt by the wafting aroma - presumably that of a septic tank in desperate need of emptying.
Most disappointing, however, was the quality of food. Whilst the website describes “years of experience, care and attention to detail”, little evidence of this was found during the stay. If you’re enjoying a drink in the bar then be sure to keep the noise down otherwise it is possible that you will be reprimanded by a member of staff if it’s getting late (i.e. after 10pm).
There are several other fantastic hotels in the same area which offer similar breathtaking views but at a fraction of the price and with a somewhat more contemporary approach.
