I stayed there during Xmas time with my girlfriend. She was very happy with how clean it was (not an easy thing to achieve! trust me on that). The owners are the people who is actually taking care of everything there, so they can take any decision needed and believe me, they were really flexible and kind. This is the place to go if you want to be relaxed in a friendly atmosphere. The price was really good also, in fact very similar to what you have to pay for the caves they give you in the Youth Hostel, but here you get a double room with a huge and clean private bathroom, a tv and a superb confortable bed.

From now on this will be our place to stay in the Lake District

We stayed at the Cherry Garth last week. It has lovely gardens and is in a good location, but the decor inside is tired and dated. The rooms were average. The beds themselves comfortable, but with very uncomfortable pillows which smelt unpleasant (bit like a dog had been sleeping on them). The bathroom shower was very hard to regulate and the water was extremely hot. The bedroom window was in the room and had a white blind. At 5am the room was flooded in light and the staff remedied this the next night by inserting a black bin liner bag across it!

The breakfasts were very nice and the staff friendly, helpful and very accommodating. However, this is often the case in B&Bs and did not make up for the other problems.

My overall impression was that it was very expensive for a mediocre B&B. It should drop its prices if it wants more custom, especially as many places in the area charge far less for better accommodation. We had booked hostels the rest of our stay and slept far better in them, the showers worked, the staff just as friendly and helpful and the food was great for a fraction of the price.

I'm sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy your stay with us.

However I do feel your comments are unjustified.

I do remember you staying, as it is the one and only time we used anything against the window. You asked us if there was anything we could do for the morning and we said that we couldn't get anything that soon. Then you said "well a black bin bag would be better than nothing". That is the only reason that we put it on the window, otherwise we would never have dreamed of it.

Therefore I do feel it is unfair that you wrote that.

Our bedding is washed regularly and I'm sorry that you felt that it was unclean.

Showers can be hard to regulate with the outside cold water pressure. We are therefore looking at replacing all our showers to solve this problem, but obviously this will take time.

We have recently increased our prices and our occupancy this month was the highest ever.

This is the nicest hotel we have stayed in, the owners Amy and Viv (sisters) run the hotel and will go out of their way to help you - late breakfast, late check out etc. Its about a 4 min walk to the centre of Ambleside and it has 12 rooms lovely and authentic for the lake district priced at £35 each a night its a terribly good deal, also you dont have to book 2 nights which you do at most htls in the lakes they accepted our booking of 8 rooms for 1 night during the May bank holiday!!!, when nobody else would. The hotel is picture perfect -- its opposite the lake and if you have a top floor attic room which i did and which was perfect, you have excellent views of the fells and lake. They even have a DVD in every room and their own library you can borrow from. Finally the breakfast finished us off - 2 eggs, black pudding, good quality bacon, cumberland ring, mushrooms, tomatoe, toast, fresh brewed coffee and fresh orange juice or tea with fruit and cereals - fantastic.

We are booking for another trip soon.
