“Great location and fantastic B&B....wouldn't stay anywhere else in Ambleside!”

Haven Cottage

10 May 2008

Having never been to the Lake District, deciding on where to stay was difficult to say the least. Ambleside is a small town right in the middle of the Lake District and ideal for using as a base for your stay. It's not far from Windermere and keeps you away from the annoying "day trip tourists"! The main part of town which is abundant in fantastic restaurants is only 2 mins walk from Haven Cottage. There is also private parking out front which is really handy.

Claire and Tim make you feel very welcome and are amazing hosts. Claire's homemade cakes are delicious and breakfast is fantastic...it makes such a difference when all produce is sourced locally and organic where possible. Our stay was made even more memorable because it felt like we were staying at Claire and Tim's home. Tim remembers everyone's name and it's the attention to detail that really makes this B&B special. We wouldn't stay anywhere else and can't wait for our next visit!

A lovely place to stay, a few minutes walk into the centre of Ambleside.

Very friendly owners. Nothing was too much.

Gorgeous free homemade tea and cakes on arrival especially the Lemon Drizzle Cake.

The breakfast was great, home made, locally sourced or free trade produce.

The rooms were comfortable, cosy, clean, with a quality firm bed.

The only downside was no bath. But for the price that was very small price to pay.

I highly recommend it.

    • Liked — Friendliness of owners and quality homemade grub. It was like being invited into someones home rather than visiting a hotel.
    • Disliked — Roadside location could be a minor problem on a hot summers night. Although we closed the window and had no problem with trafic.

This is a really great B&B, which is made all the better by the owners and their wonderful food and sense of humour. The location is very handy with only a 3 minute walk into the centre of Ambleside; and although it is on the main road there was not much traffic noise, and as it was on the outskirts of town you benefited from the private parking and the lack of late night town centre noise. The decor is not too chintzy, and whilst it's not a boutique hotel the rooms are clean, comfortable and have a good shower. The best bit though is the owners Tim and Claire; you are very much treated as guests in their home (which you are!) with excellent afternoon tea and homemade cake, and the breakfasts are delicious, especially because the ingredients they use are so good. And then there are the puzzles at breakfast time........ We are just glad to find somewhere in Ambleside which we really like after a few years of trying – we will be back!

“A Brilliant B&B”

Haven Cottage

We wanted to stay for one night only in the Lakes, but found most hotels and B&B's would only do two nights. Stumbled across Haven Cottage on a internet search and spoke with the owners who said no problem, but would be a 10% surcharge for 1 night stay. As only £35 per head, this was no problem at all.

Was worried that no internal snaps on the website, but this proved to be no worries, as inside was as you would imagine a quaint english B&B in the Lakes. Very warm and comfortable surroundings and good rooms with en suite rooms and tv. All very clean and tidy.

Best bit was the home made cakes and tea which were included in the price. They will also sell you some to take home for a very reasonable price. Breakfast was magical, and Claire made her own sausages!

Proximity to Ambleside was good, two mins walk, plus had private parking which is a bonus.

All in all exactly what we were looking for from warm friendly hosts and we will definitely be back.
