Our stay at the Rysdale was fantastic !

When we arrived we had a very warm welcome from the owner Allan, who had time to talk to us and help us out with any questions we had. We were shown the breakfast room which was very clean and beautifully arranged and the guest room which had a very welcoming feeling, a working wood burning fire and a bookcase full of books for guests to read as they sit on the sofa's.

Our room was stunning, very very clean with beautiful views of the mountains out of our big bay window, a table and seats were provided infront of the window to admire these views. There is also a flat screen tv and lovely coffee and tea making facilities. The bathroom has eveything, with large fluffy towels and once again is cleaned to a high standard.

The breakfasts are superb, offering a great deal of choice and beautifully presented.

The Rysdale is situated in an ideal position, having everything within strolling distance, there are many choices of places to eat, walking shops and a lovely waterfall walk again within walking distance.

To sum the Rysdale up we feel it is a fantastic, warm, welcoming and very very clean place to stay and would highly recommend for anyone to stay.

We feel the Rysdale is fantastic value for money and look forward to our next trip.

We booked The Rysdale at short notice for a short break. Before booking we notified the owner that we would be bringing bicycles. He noted that this wouldn't be a problem, as we could chain them to a railing outside the B&B, and that they'd be outwith the view of the road.

When we arrived, this was true. However, the owner's car was permanently parked in the narrow drive at the rear of the house. This did serve the function of obscuring the bikes from passers-by, but did mean that we had to physically lift the bikes above our heads to get them past his car - so this may pose solo cyclists a problem (unless your bike is very light!).

The website does give the impression that the B&B is located amongst expansive gardens. However, these images appeared to have been taken from one of the bedrooms that overlooked this landscape from across a public road.

The welcome from the owner was very good. The quality of the room was excellent - spotlessly clean and of a good size. The bed was extremely comfortable. Even although the B&B is big (many rooms), it was surprisingly quiet- even when it was nearly fully booked.

The toliet was small and had a shower. Unfortunately, like many showers the only two temperatures available were napalm or arctic ice - nothing inbetween. However, this was only a minor problem.

Breakfast choice was ordered the evening before using a breakfast slip. This system worked well and the breakfast was very nice- and good choices were available- all freshly cooked. Remember to ask for your toast at the same time as your tea/coffee - otherwise it comes at the end, when you've finished your breakfast (I like to have toast with my egg!!!!).

All in all, the B&B was relatively cheap, and we didn't have any significant problems (apart from a slightly embarrassing moment when the owner opened our bedroom door whilst we were having an afternoon nap to show another couple our room!!??- however, to be fair he did apologise profusely!!).

All in all, we would recommend.

Another point to consider is that Ambleside is by far the best Lake District town to stay in - the restuarant choice is excellent!

Situated on Rothay Road, very near the centre of Amblseside, the Rysdale Hotel is a very clean and well run B&B. We were allocated a superior double room at £38ppn, which looked out over the pitch & putt and bowling green. The room overlooked the main road which could cause problems with traffic noise at night. Parking can be awkward as Ambleside runs a disc programme allowing you only an hour on the street. However, parking is free from 6pm until 9am in the morning. Therefore you can park overnight from 5pm until 10am next morning, claiming your 'free' hours.

The room was large with a big bay window, double bed and tea & coffee making facilities. The bathroom was small, but sufficient and spotlessly clean. Soft towels were provided with a number of toiletries. There was a hair dryer in the room as well as a flat screen TV with terrestial channels. You are handed a breakfast menu which you have to complete before night time and there is a large choice of breakfasts.... from full 'english' with all the usual suspects to kippers, poached eggs. There is also a large choice of cereals, fresh fruits, yoghurts etc. tea, coffee and toast. Breakfast is served between 8.30-9am in the dining room downstairs. It is a substantial breakfast.

Behind the dining room is a study with an old log fire and plenty of books to read. The room is decorated with paintings by the owner, Allan, a former school teacher.

We enjoyed our two day stay and would I recommend this B&B to our friends & family... if they wanted a B&B, yes. Would I stay here again..... I'm afraid I've ticked the box now so I won't be going back.
