“loved the hot tub”

Winder Hall Country House

14 Apr 2008

Beauiful Jacobean Manor House (middle part), the bedroom had a spectacular view overlooking kitchen garden and hills. Very expensive bathroom with slate shower enclosure but the rain shower more of a drizzle. Historic large dining room, oak panelled and floors. Beautifully presented tables and good service although erratic, we reserve judgement on the food and too expensive! although bacon and eggs outstanding, from their own pigsand hens. The hot tub and sauna over looking fields of sheep and hills was a real treat after walking. Nice small touches like homemede chocs and fruit bowls. Would stay there again and not take dinner, but recomend The Old Vicarage in Lorton we stayed at last year, it was exeptional. Ref, Trip Advisor.

My Wife and I have just returned from our second stay at Winder Hall and had an utterly fantastic time.

I wanted to write one last year but didn't get round to it, so I thought I'd strike when the iron is still warm.

Actually this a very difficult review to write as it's difficult not to heap praise on the team at Winder Hall and sound like some bad advert.

You feel really welcome and everyone is really talkative and attentive but not invasive, if you get my meaning.

It's so relaxed it makes the whole experience relaxing.

The food is excellent, the full Cumbrian breakfast sets you up for the day (the bacon is from their own pigs, the eggs from their own hens). You can sit with some tea & cake in the afternoon and choose you evening meal. The choice of wine is great and they have a good choice of the local Jennings beer.

The room was great with a new slate tile shower and a marvelous brass bed (Not in all rooms as each is different).

The sauna is a great bonus, made more entertaining by the surreal sight of sheep grazing in the field in front.

In fact the only negative I can even think of was the auto close strut for the door of our room was a little cantankerous. That's it.

Not exactly a huge gripe is it?

For a weekend break it's ideal, go just don't tell too many people so it doesn't get spoilt.

“Bliss”

Winder Hall Country House

We headed to the Lakes for a weekend away and found this place by chance, driving by.

From the moment we walked in, we were made to feel welcome. We were given complimentary tea, coffee and cakes whilst a room was made ready for us (we'd turned up early one morning).

The room was lovely - four poster bed, fire place, spotlessly clean and lots of nice touches like chocolates and decent toiletries.

We had dinner in the restaurant that night and it was excellent. Really tasty and not overly fussy.

Probably the best bit though was the breakfast the next morning. Everything was organic and tasted so fresh. I

Would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting a relaxing break away from it all.

Myself and a friend stayed at Winder Hall in December and we thought the place was wonderful.

Beautiful building, idyllic location, outstanding views, staff were fantastic and incredibly welcoming, room was lovely and the food was delicious. It really is worth spending the extra for dinner, don't even consider going elsewhere!

We felt very lucky to have stumbled across this gem (thank you Tripadvisor reviewers!) and were so pleased with our stay that we paid them a little extra. I hope to return to the Lake District this year and would not consider staying anywhere else.

Stayed here for a couple of days for walking in the area,a little difficult to find but well worth the effort. The atmosphere was relaxing from the word go. The food was of a very high standard matched with the excellent room and attention to service. Remember swimwear to take advantage of the hot tub and sauna. Which although down the garden ( a bit chilly when we were there) is relaxing with lovely views of the grounds.we look forward to our next visit when time allows. we would (and have) recommended this lovely hall to our friends.
