Very nice B&B conveniently located in the town centre. Our host showed us great personal attention and the standard of the room was first class. Nice breakfasts. The only downside was lack of convenient parking.

We managed to book a twin room at short notice and couldn't believe our luck when we arrived and saw our room. Fabulous! with a luxurious bathroom supplied with large thick towels. The breakfasts were great as they offered a large selection of fresh fruit, yogurts and great cereals along with plenty of fresh coffee and tea all served in a beautiful breakfast room with linen napkins and white tablecloths. The property is a fantastic Georgian building right in the centre of Cockermouth so very convenient for restaurants and pubs. Alan the host went that extra mile to find us daily weather reports for hill walking. RECOMMENDED !

My husband and I stayed at Six Castlegate guesthouse in mid-May of this year. Since returning to the US, we have often reminisced about our visit to Cockermouth and our experience at Six Castlegate. The whole experience was kind of magical, beginning with being able to book a room on short notice via my Blackberry. We arrived the following morning just before 11:00 am, and although we couldn't check in right then, Angela, our hostess, kindly showed us the room and we were able to leave our luggage there as we dashed off to the Jennings Brewery (just around the corner) for a tour that started at 11:00 am.
Upon returning to Six Castlegate, we unpacked and marveled at our lovely bright, large room and the feather duvet and pillows on our queen-size bed. It was so inviting, we had to take a nap! Waking refreshed, we made plans for dinner at the Bitter End brew pub which was a short walk from Six Castlegate. The food was marvelous, and so was the beer that was brewed on the premises.
The next morning, breakfast at Six Castlegate was superb! Among other things featured, was some of the best whole grain bread that we had on the entire trip. The fresh fruit buffet was very tasty and beautifully laid out. The yogurt was a great touch and of course, the hot portion of the meal was expertly prepared by Angela and served by our host, Alan. The linen table cloths and napkins were a very lovely touch.
Once we returned home, we rated the many places that we stayed over our 17 day visit to England, and Six Castlegate came out on top! Although we don't know when we'll next be returning to England, you can be sure that we will make a point of once again visiting Cockermouth and staying at Six Castlegate.
