We have just returned from a two night stay at the Red Lion and what a superb stay it was.

I booked this hotel for my wedding anniversary and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

The hotel is located in the centre of Grasmere and is a short walk, well to just about everywhere in the village.

The service from the staff was excellent as was the food.

This hotel seems to have recieved some outstanding reviews - unfortunately my experience of staying here was quite different. Some of the staff were verging on the rude and the room, while adequate was really a little shabby for the price - wouldn't recommend the place to anyone.

Just returned from a short break at this hotel. Our first time in the Lake District and we were very pleased. Our bedroom was well kept and clean with lovely views and the dining room, lounge and bar were a pleasure to sit in. The staff were very efficient. Our only slight quibble was that the hotel dinner on the first night was mediocre and we did not dine there again. However, breakfast was lovely and, unusually, was cooked to order, not on a buffet. Grasmere is small but attractive and quiet at night and this made for a very relaxing stay.

From walking through the door on day one until the moment we left we found all members of staff very professional.
The room was a little on the small side and the bathroom was a little cramped but it didn't take any of the shine away from our stay.
We had only one evening meal at the hotel and it was excellent as was the full english breakfast.
The residents bar prices at 30% above the normal bar prices seemed a little over the top but we had the choice and used it.
We feel sure that when the latest round of alterations are complete and the required building trades vacate the area The Red Lion Hotel will be the only place to stay in Grasmere.
