My husband and I were lucky enough to get a very reasonable two night deal, for a stay at this fantastic hotel.
The room was very comfortable and the standards of cleanliness and attention to detail were incredible. By the time we came back from dinner, the bed had been turned down, and the bathroom had been tidied again! The Molton Brown toiletries were lovely and this hotel had the rare commodity of a real hairdryer in the bedroom (not the pathetic excuses for hairdryers that you normally get!).
The food had to be the high point for us though. As a couple of avid 'foodies' we don't think we've had better meals in any of the other hotels we've stayed in (and there have been a few!...). The choice was varied, and chef cooked his excellent quality ingredients to absolute perfection. The meals were a lengthy affair, but this allowed us to enjoy the lovely surroundings and the fine wines all the more! Breakfast was a joy as well, with plenty to choose from.
The staff at this hotel show an obvious pride and enthusiasm in their work, and nothing is too much trouble. The professionalism is second to none.
I should be on commission for this review, as I don't think I could praise this hotel enough, or find anything negative to say about the place! If you are planning on going to the Lake District in the near future, do yourself a favour and go to Linthwaite House!

Our second stay, we had wonderful valentines night, excellent freindly service, exqusite dinner in a romantic cosy environment. thank you.
2 night stay from 11th february 2008
My wife and I were delighted with our stay at Linthwaite House.
Wonderful location with lovely grounds and views. We were blessed with glorious sunny weather for our stay and The Lakes were beautiful.
We recieved friendly, relaxed yet professional service from every member of staff, with an attention to detail which is not found everywhere.
Gorgeous, good sized room (No.29). which was serviced a.m .and again as we dined in the evening. It is well equiped with a CD and DVD player, iron and ironing board and good quality toiletries.
Building work is being carried out at present but it is not obtrusive. However work started at 8.30 am below our room and we had been assured no work would start before 10.00am. This may have been more of an issue had we not been early risers.
The food is outstanding, with canapes pre dinner served in the conservatory and coffee with petit fours afterwards. The restaurant itself is sophisticated yet relaxed and the menu concise using local produce. On our first evening we had a 9.00 pm sitting which was a little later than we had wished for and our choice of beef had unfortunately run out. However the cod substitute was delicious.
Breakfast is superb, again with good quality local produce.
This was our first stay at Linthwaite House,it was booked on the strength of the reviews here on Trip Advisor. We will return and would recommend it to anyone seeking to be pampered for a couple of days.

We decided on the Friday to go away for the weekend and looked on Late Rooms to see what was available. Having eaten at Linthwaite House before we decided to book there. They are having the kitchen extended at the moment but it didn't affect our stay at all.
The staff were extremely helpful from arrival to departure. We had dinner at the hotel which was excellent (£48 per head), and worth every penny.
Rooms are a good size and the hotel is very quiet. It has a really relaxed feel to it, very much a country house hotel, with jigsaws to do on a rainy day, lovely conservatory to sit in and the most wonderful views.
We were lucky to have fantastic weather all weekend, more like April than February. On the Sunday morning the view of Windermere, all misty over the lake was just beautiful.
All in all a fantastic break and just what we needed to re-charge our batteries.
