Linthwaite is the sort of place that you have to visit to really understand what it is about.
No review can do justice to the excellence that my family experienced last weekend. It was a celebration of a 40th wedding anniversary, and the hotel was selected after long research by my niece, an experienced traveller in top class hotels worldwide. She chose it partly for its extensive menue and wine list - and chose very well indeed.
We were greeted very efficiently by the staff, and shown around the Hotel, and then to our rooms, where the facilities were explained in great detail by an enthusiastic staff member.
At dinner, we sat and ate canapés in the luxurious lounge before being shown to our table in the restaurant, where we had a first class meal cooked by a Chef who knew his stuff. The service was impeccable with nothing being too much trouble. Even when we asked for a single portion of the cheese course and seven plates and knives to go with it,(we were well sated) the staff were unphased.
The Hotel is set in delightful grounds, with grassy walks in the woods, a small Tarn, and lots of wild life. Two roe deer came to show themselves at the breakfast room window, and lots of birds of all types swam in the Tarn or browsed the grassy banks. A peaceful site about a mile from Bowness.
Unfortunately I never took any photos of the hotel.
It is of traditional Lakeland construction, and is currently being extended in a very professional manner, and the works do not interfere with the guests in any way
Pay Linthwaite a visit - you will not regret it.
