We were lucky to get a two night break at this hotel on lastminute.com, and afterwards it felt like we had had a week off work! The hotel was excellent; the setting was good, away from the crowds but on the edge of everything. The gardens were spectacular, even while the were having an extension built, you hardly noticed it. The bar, conservatory and lounges are well decorated and comfortable, with spectacular views. The bedrooms were a haven of peace, beds so comfortable, and showers great. The resturant was fantastic. My husband thought the food was probably the best he had ever tasted. he said it made the finalists of masterchef look like they were coking MacDonalds! The staff were all very friendly and helpful, and we were sad to leave. Hopefully we will be back soon

“Even the fishing is great !”

Linthwaite House Hotel

8 May 2008

Stayed here for the Easter weekend this year and I cannot find fault with anything at this hotel. Even the fishing on the Tarn was for me, outstanding. 11 fish in a total of 2 and a half hours is good in my book. Would definitely recommend this place and will visit again. There was building work being done but did not affect our stay of the atmosphere of the place in general.

We have just returned from a few days in this delightful hotel. Set on a hill with superb views of Lake Windermere in fabulous gardens - even with it own Tarn! The welcome , care and attention of all the staff made our stay even better. Everyone went out of their way to make us comfortable and at home.
Bedrooms are well equipped, clean and comfortable and the hotel has several charming lounge areas for relaxing.
The food was outstanding . I particularly appreciated the special care given to my menu choices as I have a dietary problem.
There is so much to see and do in this truly beautiful part of England and we wished we were staying longer. However, we shall certainly plan another visit to Linthwaite in the near future

Linthwaite is the sort of place that you have to visit to really understand what it is about.

No review can do justice to the excellence that my family experienced last weekend. It was a celebration of a 40th wedding anniversary, and the hotel was selected after long research by my niece, an experienced traveller in top class hotels worldwide. She chose it partly for its extensive menue and wine list - and chose very well indeed.

We were greeted very efficiently by the staff, and shown around the Hotel, and then to our rooms, where the facilities were explained in great detail by an enthusiastic staff member.
At dinner, we sat and ate canapés in the luxurious lounge before being shown to our table in the restaurant, where we had a first class meal cooked by a Chef who knew his stuff. The service was impeccable with nothing being too much trouble. Even when we asked for a single portion of the cheese course and seven plates and knives to go with it,(we were well sated) the staff were unphased.

The Hotel is set in delightful grounds, with grassy walks in the woods, a small Tarn, and lots of wild life. Two roe deer came to show themselves at the breakfast room window, and lots of birds of all types swam in the Tarn or browsed the grassy banks. A peaceful site about a mile from Bowness.
Unfortunately I never took any photos of the hotel.
It is of traditional Lakeland construction, and is currently being extended in a very professional manner, and the works do not interfere with the guests in any way

Pay Linthwaite a visit - you will not regret it.
