Ye Old Wild Boar in Windermere...

Couldnt find any other hotels at the time...all want 2 night stays over the weekend..found this via late rooms, its about 2 miles from the lake in a place called crook.
Turned up 1pm shown room, all fine, big room, ground floor at back no problems...went out for day and night..
Now, didnt turn up back to hotel till after midnight..
The guy opened the bar for us, top geezer..and was most helpful..
Next mornin breakfdast finished at 10.. again turned up after 10 and was cooked a superb full english...
all in all a good if dated hotel..but staff are a1..and they charge per room and not per person...

Reccommended......

Only stayed here for one night. Nice old fashioned hotel with good restaurant. Only criticism would be that the creaking floorboards and slamming doors and everyone walking backwrads and forwards past our particular room did not make for a very restful night, added to that our wooden framed bed was particularly creaky. In fact in the end you had to see the funny side of it. Meal in restarant was very good and the staff were very attentive without rushing you. I would recommend this hotel for the atmosphere but only by adding take your ear plugs !!

Decided a break out of the city was needed, having been to the Wild Boar for dinner on many occaisions and loved it, finding accomodation on Laterooms was great. I rang the hotel directly only to be told that Laterooms should not be posting the rate as only one room was left in the entire Hotel, which was a suite.
I was quoted £94 PP for Dinner Bed and Breakfast. Even though slightly steep I eventually decided to call back and book, there was no other availibility in Windermere and I knew the food was great.
The food and resturant staff could not be faulted as usual. The Menu is great and the atmosphere delightful, HOWEVER....... The man on reception was to be blunt, quite rude on arrival. We entered our suite and yes it had a four poster bed and a really nice garden area to the rear. The bathroom left something to be desired. A shower that resembled a dribble, peeling ceiling and a jacuzzi that had pieces missing and took a member of staff to turn off!!
The bill, well already far too overpriced for the quality of accomodation, I then found extra charges from dinner! They had everything detailed and even a conservation charge (clearly not spent on the rooms!!) I was amazed that even after having to complain about the bathroom, no gesture of goodwill was offered by the once again abrupt reception staff who even neglected to give a farewell. Also very dubious as to wether the hotel was really fully booked. My boyfriend and I had a lovely evening but I left feeling slightly conned and really annoyed at the extra charges that bought the bill to £200 for the total stay. Be warned, very good for food but feels like a different company stratergy where the accomodation is concerned.

Booked last minute on the internet DBB £171 - were upgraded to a very nice suite at no extra cost - the hotel has lots of character, which makes up for it being about 3 miles from Lake Windermere - the staff were excellent, seemed to be mostly students from abroad on gap year - food and ambience in the restaurant could not be faulted. True not all the furnishings are brand new but everything was clean and tidy.

“What an improvenment”

Famous Wild Boar Hotel

Staying at this charming hotel many times as I have over the years I can not tell you how pleasing it was to see the improvenment in the bedrooms and in particular the bathrooms, ours was only refurbished two weeks ago. The truth is the hotel was looking very tired on our last couple of visits but even the corridors are bright and clean. As always the food was of the highest standard and many more expensive critically alclaimed restaurants in the area could learn from the chef here, this tied in with the improved bedrooms made our stay a pleasure. We can't wait to go back.
