“Superb stay at beech Hill”

Beech Hill Hotel

We recently stayed at the Beech Hill Hotel to celebrate our wedding aniversary. On arrival reception staff were friendly and helpful and greeted us with complimentary coffee which we enjoyed in the spacious and relaxing lounge which over looks Lake Windermere.
Our room was large with french windows with an outlook of the lake. Beautifully furnished with plasma TV. The bathroom was of a modern, tasteful decor with a spa bath and seperate shower.
The highlight of our stay was undoubtedly the 5 course, 5 star evening meal. The food was out of this world and served to us with finesse. All the waiting on staff were, again, friendly and exceptionally helpful, nothing was too much trouble.
We've been to many hotels around the south lakes but of them all, the sevice that is offered here is far superior to them all.
I cannot understand the negative reviews, we are coming back for Christmas!

“The marmite hotel”

Beech Hill Hotel

30 Nov 2007

I read all the reviews for this hotel and it seemed a marmite hotel some loved it and others hated it but we decided to take the risk. We got a 2 night package with free evening meal on the first night stopping in a premier plus room. We had a faultless stay regarding room, service and the food. Having looked around the hotel its clear you get what you pay for, the premier plus are the newest rooms so everything was immaculate, no stains, no peeling wallpaper and no thread bare carpet ! However, passing some of the budget rooms they looked pretty bad. So if you are going to stop here work on the theory you will have to pay a bit more for your room if you have higher expectations of accommodation.

We stayed on a mid week 4 night break on a B&B basis. The room was described as a Classic double, (standard), with partial lake view. The room was ideal; the lake view was only slightly obscured by the flat roof of the pool area. You could sit on the large double bed & look out onto the lake through the sliding patio doors. The hotel is as most are in the Lakes, a little tired in some areas, but the location, views, restaurant, lounge & friendly staff make up for the chipped paintwork & worn carpets. Holidays are what you make them & we certainly enjoyed this one at the Beech Hill & we will definitely return in the future.

what a shame as this hotel is in quite a lovely setting on the lake, but badly needs a refit, the front of the hotel is right on the road edge and looks quite nice...but we approached it from the car park side...oh my god....it was so run down l nearly never got out of the car....but friends had bought us this break as a present.....so l got out....then l found out no lift in the building and had to climb 3 very steep stairs cases to book in...our room was a premium delux over looking the lake and at the prices our friends paid we expected a luxury room, the bathroom was very nice but only one small shelf which was no good to anyone, the shower again was great but you can see where it had major problems with leaking and a very bad repair job had been done overall the room was large but basic...not what you would expect from the prices charged....the only two good things about this hotel was the food and the views.....l would not recommend this hotel to anyone until it has a major refit inside and out

Judging by some of the other reviews on here, i was a little apprehensive, but luckily for me, i had a reasonably pleasant experience.

The amazing views and the tranquility you find by the lakeside is terrific. Although some people have complained about breakfast, i found it very generous with a cooked buffet style English breakfast and for the rate we paid in early September, very reasonable.

The room itself was attractive, albeit not entirely comfortable. The bathroom appeared a bit worn and the shower leaked consistently despite my best efforts. Furthermore, whilst the patio door in the room gave rise to an exceptional view, particularly in the morning, it would have been nice to have a net curtain of sorts to give privacy, as you would have to shut the main curtain when changing which blocked the natural light.

Other than that, staff were courteous and friendly. Dinner, however, was extortionately priced at a minimum of £30 per head with no vegetarian options. I would recommend going a few miles to Barrow for much better value and quality for your meals.
