Friendly & Cosy. We visited in February and the tarns were frozen. Great walks as was no rain. Hotel was very warm. 4 flights of very steep stairs to our room. Lots and lots of stairs and no lift - no good if you are not fit! Breakfast was OK but tomatoes were a bit off - tasted odd. Food lukewarm. Great views. Carpets very worn and dodgy on the stairs.
Otherwise pleasant.

In summer road would be a problem as is very very busy & tricky getting out - sharp turn with mirrors.

As we arrived we noticed a sign outside saying "Rooms £45 a night", having paid £200 for one night we had great expectations of the room we were getting.

This hotel is set in a beautiful location. this is the only good thing about the hotel.

This hotel is what I would only describe as a poor, shabby 70's building, falling to bits. It was like being on the crystal maze running to keep up with the porter showing us to our room.

The smell of warm damp, dirty walls, broken lights and many other poor faults was not what we expected, the room was utterly dissapointing, it was totally unacceptable.

We checked out within 15 minutes and received a refund. We stayed at the Old England Hotel in the town centre, absolutely outstanding hotel in every way, highly recommended and also £45 cheaper!

“Very tired and dated”

Just had a night at the Beech Hill and, have to say, I can't really make up my mind. On the one hand, the hotel is very tired and dated. On the other, it is in a lovely location and has certain charms.
I booked a basic double room and, within 10 minutes, I was upgraded after complaining. There was a massive, dangerous tear in teh carpet right by the door, the hot water tap dribbled (at best) luke warm water, the bathroom window could be opended from ground level outside and the ceiling was damp and had leaked onto some of the furniture, which had not been changed.
The upgraded room was a whole lot better. However, the bathroom was not as clean as it should have been.
I had two coffees in reception and these were poor. However, the breakfast was excellent.
One of the problems, I think , is that they pay Eastern European staff very low wages and I imagine standards have dropped. This was clearly, once, a very impressive hotel.
It is a shame, but the hotel is very dated and tired-looking. For example, the swimming pool area was very cold and looked dirty, with old tables lying around etc.
Even the building outside looks like it is fading away. Strong management would sort this place out and a lick of paint would go down a treat. But not that bad, just don't expect perfection for the price.

We have just returned from a 2 night stay at the Beech Hill and had a wonderful time. This is a hotel where you can relax and unwind
We booked a premier plus room and where not dissapointed. The room was brilliant with a massive bed, leather suite and Plasma TV.The bathroom had a Seperate shower and wirlpool bath. The lake view was superb even at this time of year when the weather is not at its best.
We ate from the 5 course gourmet menu and the food was superb, as was the breakfast the following morning.
We will be booking another weekend very soon.

Just returned from a 3 night stay at Beech Hill.
Don't be put off by the exterior,it's nothing that a lick of paint ( or three ) and some TLC will not cure.
We too were lucky to have our room upgraded to a lovely, lake view with patio doors.
Nice big bathroom with corner bath and separate shower.
The food was excellent and the staff helpful.
Staircase to our room was abit threadbare but this did not spoil our overall enjoyment.
Used the pool which was only marred by the rather basic changing facilities.
Overall we found it very good value.
