We visited Braemount House at the end of March. We contacted the owners to let them know that unfortunately we wouldn't be getting there until very late. We were worried this may be a problem but they were very accommodating and immediately solved the issue by placing a key outside for us, which made us feel much more at ease. Even though we arrived in the early hours there was a piece of chocolate cake left for us both and hot water to have a quick shower. Our room contained a lovely four poster bed with lots of extra touches which made our stay very special. We had a heated towel rail, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, cotton buds, T.V, DVD player, video player (with a collection of DVD's and videos on the first floor) , tea, coffee, hot chocolate, a teapot (being a tea drinker I know teapots make all the difference!), biscuits and accessories which reminded me of a hotel in London!
When we came down for breakfast we were instantly impressed by the friendly staff and choice of food on the menu. From crossiants (heated if you wish!) to scrambled eggs with smoked salmon, the staff had really made an effort to forfill everyones needs.
We had brochures in our room which included days out in the area for guests with or without a car and all the information about the local village and amenities. The guest house are also members of Parklands the local leisure centre which you can use at your pleasure.
Bowness and Windermere are within easy walking distance and I'd recommend the new Americanas in Bowness for dinner.
We were staying at the Guest house over Easter and even received our own easter egg in our room!

We were very impressed with the service we received whilst staying at Braemount House and will definately be recommending it to anyone wanting to spend time in the beautiful Lake District.

We arrived at Braemount House on the 7th February 2005, for 3 nights. We booked early to avoid dissapointment. The hotel looked really nice in the brochure we had been sent and the pictures on the Internet.

When we arrived at the guest house, we was firstly dissapointed in two things-

* The guest house is in the middle of a residential estate. It also looked like the door could do with a lick of paint.
* Also on some of the write ups it was advertised as a hotel which in fact it is a guest house.

The rooms were very nice, spacious and clean on arrival. Also in the room was a television and a DVD player and a CD player, we found this a very nice touch. In the brochure it said you get complimentary scones and drinks on arrival, we was not offered this. Why advertise something you don't offer.

On walking, we found the hotel to be central, midway between Windermere and Bowness-on- Windermere. So if you do not have a car than the loaction is great and it is only a couple of pounds in the taxi from the train station.

The breakfasts in the hotel was not up to much and we found the people who ran the hotel not that friendly- you sometimes got the impression you were imposing on them.

We are regualr guests in the Lake District and if you are looking for a great hotel try the Applegarth. This is in Windermere and is perfect for guests with cars or if you havn't got a car is probably about a 20 min stroll to the lake. There is an excellent Italian resteraunt called the Villa Pastina- good food and fantastic service. Also a reasonable price.

If you are going to travel around the villages eg, Ambleside, Keswick, Kendal and Grasmere the buses are quite expensive but they do a saver ticket which is £8 per person and this will get you unlimited access to all the buses. We also visited the cinema in Windermere it is only small but a good night out, they still have intervals and come round with Ice Cream.

The hotel was Ok but we would not return. I am the Asst. Manager of a travel agents so maybe I am beeing a bit picky but I don't think it was worth the money and I would not recommend the Braemount House.
