Braemount House

We came here for a two night stay on 7th July 2006. Upon our arrival (very easy to find thanks to directions on the website) we were greeted and made most welcome by a very cheerful Janine. After we had been shown our lovely room we were provided with tea coffee and some really tasty scones with jam and cream, which we ate ouside on the well kept patio area.

Our room - Room 2 was located on the first floor at the front of the house, with two windows, one on the side and one on the front, both with great views - from the side window, you could even see the trees on the other side of the lake. The room contained an oak four poster bed with matching furniture and the decor and bedding was contemporary and homely. We also had a TV, DVD and VCR in the room - there is a DVD and Video library right outside the room with a huge selction of films suitable for all the family, these a free to borrow during your stay. Tea, Coffee and Hot Chocolate making facilities also have a place in your room along with the twin pack of biscuits. If you fancy a bottle of wine - there are even a tray on the landing table with wine glasses and corkscrew!! Or you could always but yourself a small bottle of water for 30p from the other landing area.
Our room also had its own ensuite bathroom - compact, but everything in there you need, including toiletries, face cloths and towels. Again, nice and clean with a great shower over the bath - the bath does come in handy after a day out doing lots of walking.
The room also has a hairdryer and a selction of leaflets and booklets about the area.

There are alot of attractions leaflets by the stairs and downstairs by the payphone, there are a selection of books about the area that can also be borrowed - (for those going into Bowness on a rainy night, there are a few taxi cards with telephone numbers on them, by the pay phone also).

Breakfast - Excellent food and lots of it, the choice is between a continental breakfast of cereals, toast, pan au chocolat and fruit or a cooked breakfast, or if you are really hungry you could feast on both!! The cooked beakfast is a choice of any combination of bacon, sausage, mushrooms, tomatoes, eggs - boiled, poached fried or scambled and toast, the special is scrambled eggs and smoked salmon on hot buttered wholmeal toast. Everything tastes a good as it looks and smells, if not better. All this is served with tea or coffee and a coice of home made jam and marmalade to go with your toast. The dining room is also very homely, tastefully decorated and full of original features. A packed lunch can also be pre ordered before 5pm the day before you need it.

During your stay here, you also get access to Parklands Leisure Club which is in Bowness - we did not get time to visit here on this occasion.

I liked the touch of the mini Kendal Mint Cakes on the hall stand - these taste very nice!

We were made to feel very welcome here and we really enjoyed our 2 night stay here - shame it wasn't for longer. The only thing I forgot to do was sign the visitors book, so if you read this Janinne and Duncan, thank you so much for looking after us and making our stay here a memorable one.

“Lovely breakfast and people!”

We have just returned from a wonderful stay in Windermere, despite the weather. This bed and breakfast was really good overall, well situated with friendly staff who are easy to contact when not around and make you feel at ease. The only problem we encountered, which wasnt a big deal, was the shower in our en suite, we are both over six foot and half of it was only really suitable for someone who is quite a bit shorter and seeing as it was very small it made it a little difficult to shower. Our room was next to the breakfast room, so no laying in for us as we could hear others coming down for breakfast, but this can't be helped. The breakfast was wonderful with plenty of choice, my other half eats like a horse and he was very satisfied! The bed and breakfast also provides some very handy guides for local walks and trips out by car. So overall a lovely weekend, many thanks to the staff there.

It was with great surprise and disappointment that I read this comment as we have replaced all our mattresses this year! I accept room 10 is our smallest room however the ETB inspector catorgorised this room suitable for 2 people and was very complimentary about all our rooms, awarding us with a SILVER AWARD along with 4 DIAMONDS. I know all beds do not suit all people but I do wish this person had told me these comments when I waved them off the next morning!

“Brilliant Braemount!”

Windermere certainly is a town with a lot to offer, not least by way of accommodation. Browsing the various web pages listing countless high quality guest accommodation you could be forgiven for becoming slightly bewildered at the vast array of choice before you. Eventually, after many hours of searching and wondering if every B&B could really be as good as would appear in print, the Braemount was selected. This decision was based upon the decor- substantially more modern than many rivals, the excellent value for money- not only reasonably priced but also offering 10% discount on a 3 night stay, and the location- walking distance of the lake and town. We were not disappointed. The room was lovely, clean, beautifully presented and with a fantastic four-poster bed! As we arrived rather late we thought we would not be lucky enough to benefit from the offer of scones on arrival, however, after a very friendly greeting by our new hosts we found we had not been neglected- on entering the room my all to greedy eye at once spotted the lemon cake that had been left next our biscuits and tea making facilities. It was this sort of attention to detail that made the Braemount very special. Not only do they provide you with a choice of videos, DVD's and CD's to listen to in your room, they also cater for additional needs. We noticed a table at breakfast being laid with special cutlery obviously for a child. On entering the small girl in question was clearly very taken with her pretty pink plates and cups, preferring to play with them than look at the cereal her mother was busy trying to interest her in.

Everything the Braemount produced was of the highest quality, nothing had been skimped on. The full English breakfast consisted of the finest bacon and meatiest sausage, the smoked salmon and scrambled egg was delightfully presented in the most generous portions and the array of fruit and cereal was wonderful- if you had room left to sample it! We are in no doubt that we will stay at the Braemount again and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for a quality guest house in a quiet location yet perfectly located for walking, dining, sailing, gift shopping....all of which could be done without your own transport. There was so much on the doorstep we parked our car on arrival and did not use it again until our departure!
