“Second stay and just as good”

Braemount House

Just returned from an excellent stay at Braemount House. We stayed here previously under the old management and am glad to report that the new management have kept the same standard of hospitality and are taking steps to modernise what is an absolutely lovely home.

The breakfast room now has a contemporary feel and I know they are changing one of the rooms into a lounge for guests. The small touches such as greeting us with a glass of wine and bowl of nuts and crisps, mints on the pillows, DVD / Video library, extra sausages at breakfast all go towards making this a very welcoming Guest House.

We stay in Room 8 at the top of the house which has plenty of room so that you don't get under each other's feet while getting ready for a night out in Bowness (would recommend the Mediterranean place on the walk down the hill)

We look forward to coming back and celebrating another Wedding Anniversary there next year.

I have just stayed at this guest house with the emphasis on the word house as i feel this all this property is, the start of the break began with me phoning ahead to say we would be early as we were able to take a days holiday, were the 2 rooms available and the were so we went to check in.

On arrival we found that the house was undertaking building work which we were not informed about. The lady on arrival (do not know her name was not introduced) asked which room was which as i had ordered 2 and who wants what room then. We then went out for the day, on return we decided we would drink the champange that i had ordered so i asked for an extra 2 glasses to which i was told they are on the landing and to get them myself, not even an offer of help or to hold the door while i carried the bucket of champagne and 4 glasses outside.

Throughout the night the hotel was very noisy and we were woken up alot. I imagine this is because the walls are just normal plasterboard internal walls and wafer thin.

When morning came we were woken up by them getting ready for breakfast from early on and the room was freezing, we had the radiator set to on but they did not have it on, it is controlled by there house control. This resulted in the child been freezing and her lips were blue.

At breakfast we were given toast and asked which breakfast and which hot drink, we were never offered more toast, my plate was taken away with mushrooms and tomatoes still on it but wasnt asked if i was finished, we then went to the room whilst 2 of the guests remained at the table, the lady then said am i a plate missing to indicate we had actually stolen her plate!!

When we were getting the room ready we heard her complaining to other guests about previous guests and how the turned up for dinner at 9.40 which leaves her no chance to get her breakfast and this is her own house. How people have left fag ends on the garden (designated smoking area without ashtray). She kept telling these people how its her house and if the dont like it stay somewhere else (I would highly recommend this).

On leaving i was asked for payment and the husband said we noramlly take the first nights deposit, i said are you sure you have i dont want to not pay, so we checked with his wife and she said "no we havent took payment you need to pay" rudely. So i paid and left now on return i have checked my statement to clarify this and they did take payment for the stay. We werentasked anything on how my stay was or was breakfast nice or notihing.

When phoning to clarify been charged twice she said i am busy can i phone you back i replied yes and she said bye, obviously without knowing who i was or what my number was so i said do you want my number, no i am in the middle of something phone back tonight. I would advise anyone not to go to this hotel.

Great place to stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed the hearty breakfasts. The room was elegantly furnished and equiped with all the modern amenities. We were only there for the weekend and did not have time to sample the vast video/dvd collection.

For us it was an ideal location ,just away from the hustle and bustle but only a couple of minutes walk to either Bowness or Windermere.Last but not least, our hosts made us very welcome.I think we'll be back!

Excellent stay.

Really friendly hosts who make you feel right at home without being too intrusive. We were welcomed with a glass of wine and some snacks. The hosts offered lots of advice on walks and places of interest and seeemd genuinley interested in sharing the Lakes with us.

The location is superb, just between Bowness and Windermere - lots of restaurants and bars. Parking is restricted but there is plenty of space infront of the building anyway so not a prob.

The accomodation is spotless, we had a ground floor room which was due to be upgraded but was pleasant none the less.

Overall the accomodation is being upgraded and the newly refurbed breakfast room is superb - can't wait to go back and see the rest.

The best thing about the whole weekend was the breakfast - full English, not greasy, freshly cooked and even seconds if you could manage them! The other guests were friendly and the whole place is laid back.

WIll definitely be back!

I have stayed in braemount house for the last 2 years on seperate weekends and have had an absolutely fantastic time on both occasions!
My partner and i have stayed in the same room (room 7) on both occasions and have found the facilities in the room well above average!
On our 1st trip it rained all the 1st day and we couldnt get outside at all so had to stay in the room all morning and afternoon but we found more than enough to do (ie; dvds-videos-4 poster bed?)
Duncan and Janine are very welcoming and helpful and the breakfast in a morning is to die for!
As ive said my partner and i have stayed for the last 2 years and we were just talking about our 3rd stay at braemount house the other day and will be booking soon as we wouldnt dream of going anywhere else in windermere.
