“Miller Howe not Wow”

Miller Howe Hotel & Restaurant

This hotel is living on borrowed time; the past reputation will not be upheld for long if standards are not improved:- filthy hall and stair carpets are far from welcoming and not what is expected from a hotel of 'repute'.

Room super but very small, staff friendly and helpful - but not professional or silver service. Grounds and rest of hotel 'tired'

restaurant - food different/ adventurous - ok

Can not dispute fantastic view - but that is not the only thing you pay for!!! Will not bother to return.

“Intimate, unobtrusibe and excellent”

Miller Howe Hotel & Restaurant

17 Jul 2006

Apart from having arguably the most stunning views across Lake Windermere, this small hotel manages to combine an intimacy one would normally expect when staying with friends, cuisine to a global standard coupled with that professional ism of service that is there when you need it, unobtrusive when you do not. Combine these elements and you have (as I did 9 after a nine hour journey) a truly relaxing , tranquil and pampered stay that makes you plan your next stay before you have checked out.....bliss.....

my husband & i decided to treat ourselves for our tenth anniversary so we booked the rosthwaite room which is on the 2nd floor overlooking lake windermere & boy were we NOT dissappointed. the room was decorated in period style as was the rest of the hotel & one was able to lie on the bed with morning tea ,the patio doors open, looking over the gardens & down onto the lake. with the mountains in the background what a view!!! tha 6 course gourmet dinner was absoutely fantastic as was the breakfast if you had room in the morning1 there a couple of lounges & a conservatory to chill out in & read a paper or two. finally the staff are very effecient & nothing is to much trouble. miller howe is a very special place & is highly recommended.

Four of us booked Miller Howe at very short notice, for a two night stay. We have to admit that our expectations were not especially high, but at the end of our weekend we all concluded that Miller Howe is really very good and we determined to go back. The decor is period (and the bedrooms are being redecorated ) but there are very comfortable places to lounge in front of the lovely fires and window seats to enjoy the views of Lake Windermere and the snow-capped peaks beyond. But above all the food is really terrific. The room rate includes a 6 course dinner and the young chef is clearly satisfying all the guests very well indeed. And if you are still hungry there is an equally excellent breakfast on offer too. We recommend it.

“Miller Howe - an excellent location”

Miller Howe Hotel & Restaurant

Just returned from a trip to Miller Howe and we had a lovely time. However, for the price we paid the hotel is not perfect. We had a second floor room with a lovely view but it was quite small and the balcony was very small. The furniture is quite cheap looking formica, not what you expect in a hotel like this. There are no tea and coffee making facilities although you do get morning tea included. The food is good, but I agree with the review that said they would like to see fewer courses but a more substantial main course. Also there is only choice of main course or sweet and the whole menu can be very rich. Drinks and wine are expensive, but no more than is usual in this class of hotel. All in all a good hotel in an excellent location, but expensive for what you receive.
