My husband booked a 2 night stay in this lovely hotel to celebrate my 50th birthday and I don't think he could have chosen better. The staff are friendly and helpful; the food is plentiful, delicious and beautifully presented. The bedrooms (seem to) have been refurbished quite recently in a tasteful modern style although it's essential to have a view of the lake. The sight will captivate you for hours on end. This is an hotel for indulgence and gracious living and we will definitely be returning there. An earlier review implied that diners have to eat simultaneously - be assured that is not the case!

As the hotel welcomes non-residents, do go for the exquisite afternoon tea - the best scones I have ever tasted - a true English experience.

Booked this hotel as a birthday surprise. It was nice but....

The rooms are fairly large and decorated in period style that is becoming a little tried to be honest. The Windermere room was clean with a small balcony for a beautiful view from the hotel. However the bathroom did not match up to expectations, being tiny with an essentially 70's basic chic and a mixer tap shower!Small bottles of L'Occitane toiletries provided - one of each and not replenished every morning so make them last....

The food was ok rather than wow and a little pretentious in a dining room that could do with refurbishment from it's currently cheap italian restaurant decor. There is no need for items such as "pre-dessert", which is basically to allow the chef time to prepare your next course. Good eggs benedict for breakfast though.

Afternoon tea was lovely but the conservatory where it is served could do with a touch up and a clean.

No tea of coffee making facilities, which for this type of hotel is to be expected I suppose but I was asked what time I would like morning tea but with no indication this is an added extra, so don't expect anything to be included in the price other than what is specifically stated.

All in all, just a tad disappointed given the price we paid. Would definately say Sharrow Bay is better as a treat for a special occassion.

This hotel is living on borrowed time; the past reputation will not be upheld for long if standards are not improved:- filthy hall and stair carpets are far from welcoming and not what is expected from a hotel of 'repute'.

Can not dispute fantastic view - but that is not the only thing you pay for!!! Will not bother to return.

Apart from having arguably the most stunning views across Lake Windermere, this small hotel manages to combine an intimacy one would normally expect when staying with friends, cuisine to a global standard coupled with that professional ism of service that is there when you need it, unobtrusive when you do not. Combine these elements and you have (as I did 9 after a nine hour journey) a truly relaxing , tranquil and pampered stay that makes you plan your next stay before you have checked out.....bliss.....
