We booked this hotel for a few days mainly on its reputation for good food. This turned out to be the most disappointing.

The rooms we stayed in were first class and extremely well appointed. Especially the junior suite but the smaller classic room was somewhat cluttered, further limiting lack of space. The suites are definitely worth the extra.

Service throughout was faultless although somewhat impersonal, partly due to the lack of any background music in any of the public rooms, leading to a whispering culture.

The food while obviously of quality, was more a display of technical artistry rather than fulfilling. Small quantities not helped by the lack of vegetables. The menu hardly changed in the five days we were there, although in fairness we were already aware of this from the hotel's own website.

We were looking for somewhere within a few hours travelling distance where we could return on a regular basis and while we were more than happy to pay prices relevant to the features advertised by the hotel, we did not consider that this gave value for money and consequently will not be returning.

We stayed here as a gift from my parents who had stayed in the sept before - we only stayed 3 nights but it was perfect - very relaxing - gorgeous rooms - welcomed with a drink on arrival - the food was out of this world and the surrounding scenery is to complete the perfection - no problems whatsoever ! We recommend this hotel for any occasion.

We stayed in the newly built Garden Suites with hot tub outside. I doubt that you will find a hotel room of this quality in the north of England. But the price was very expensive.

The food was some of the best food I have ever experienced. Absolutley full marks. Dont forget your suit though, and collared shirt for dinner. There is a dress code. You might also feel uncomfortable with either the upper class or semi-retirees. If so, keep away.

The hotel is out of walking distance from Windermere and Bowness, so if you want to wander out for a tipple, get a taxi.

Its opposite the golf club, which may help to sway your decision.

We stayed for 1 night in one of the the Garden suites and although it was certainly expensive, we feel it was worth the money. The finish of the room was superb with obvious thought to our every need. The furnishings and fabrics were gorgeous and we certainly felt we were 'in the lap of luxury'. The dinner was of a very high standard and the accompanying service was attentive without being intrusive. We must also mention the outstanding breakfast - fabulous choice with impeccable attention to detail. In conclusion although the cost was high we felt we had value for money.
