just got back from a few days at gilpin and having stayed in some wonderful hotels all over the world and eaten in lots of michelin starred restaurants .............gilpin lodge is up there with them. we stayed in a traditional room but was given a guided tour of the "hot tub " rooms which were fantastic so will definetely try one of those on our return visit. the staff were all charming and we enjoyed chatting to the wonderful mr.m. nothing was too much and the food was worthy of 2 michelin stars so delicious, the marriage of flavours and presentation were superb!! breakfast was a delight and my favourite was the rarebit............yummy!! it was raining all the time but we didnt care because we knew we would be going back to sink in a hot jacuzzi bubble bath, fluffy towels ,molton brown lotions and potions and then head down for a glass of champagne and lovely food ,recommend dining in the front room . will we be back ..............try stopping us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We booked a three night stay. Stayed in one of the garden suites.(worth the extra cost) I am unable to fault the hotel on anything. It was a truly memorable few days. The room was amazing, huge comfortable
bed, lovely bathroom, seperate sitting area, beautiful views from the decking. Hot tub (didn't use as a bit chilly outside) Llamas in the field very entertaining. The food was out of this world, something different every night on the menu. Staff delightful. Will definitely be returning next year.

Wonderful, luxurious, such friendly yet professional staff. Our junior suite was fabulous with lovely views. Attention to detail seems to be the philosophy of the hotel and there are many nice extras such as a rucksack complete with guide books, maps of the area etc for use during your stay. These are in every room. The food is first class, in fact we could not fault anything about this lovely hotel. We first stayed here about 3 years ago and it was very good then but we thought it was even better this time. Highly recommended.

We booked this hotel for a few days mainly on its reputation for good food. This turned out to be the most disappointing.

The rooms we stayed in were first class and extremely well appointed. Especially the junior suite but the smaller classic room was somewhat cluttered, further limiting lack of space. The suites are definitely worth the extra.

Service throughout was faultless although somewhat impersonal, partly due to the lack of any background music in any of the public rooms, leading to a whispering culture.

The food while obviously of quality, was more a display of technical artistry rather than fulfilling. Small quantities not helped by the lack of vegetables. The menu hardly changed in the five days we were there, although in fairness we were already aware of this from the hotel's own website.

We were looking for somewhere within a few hours travelling distance where we could return on a regular basis and while we were more than happy to pay prices relevant to the features advertised by the hotel, we did not consider that this gave value for money and consequently will not be returning.

We stayed here as a gift from my parents who had stayed in the sept before - we only stayed 3 nights but it was perfect - very relaxing - gorgeous rooms - welcomed with a drink on arrival - the food was out of this world and the surrounding scenery is to complete the perfection - no problems whatsoever ! We recommend this hotel for any occasion.
