We have just spent two days at Gilpin Lodge and once again, it did not disappoint. We stayed in St Sundays garden suite and sitting in the hot-tub sipping champagne is just one of the pleasures to experience. The rooms and the huge bathrooms are well appointed to the highest standard, you would be hard pressed to find better elsewhere. The highlight of any stay at Gilpin Lodge is dinner, the food is fantastic using locally sourced ingredients expertly prepared, cooked and presented with a different choice every evening. And if you plan to do some walking in the area, the Gilpin breakfast certainly sets you up for the day. It beggars belief that some reviewers think the place pretentious, far from it, from the minute you walk through the front door, a feeling of relaxation overcomes you. The staff are very friendly, unobstrusive but very attentive and nothing is too much trouble and the younger waiting on staff are a credit to whoever is responsible for their training.
The place is continually evolving, the lounge has been recently refurnished, with a new cocktail bar, wine cellar and outside seating area nearly complete. Whenever we drive off home through the gates, we are already looking forward to our next visit, so roll on August. (:-)
