“Disappointed”

Rosemount

We booked a three night stay at the Rosemount in Windermere, The room lacked a high standard of cleanliness ie, cracked basin in bathroom and mould on the shower head.
The first night was quiet, however a little cold overnight due to lack of heating in the room. Breakfast was cooked well and ample.
However the second night was disappointing. We arrived back to the Rosemount after a long day walking, to find a private function in full swing in the breakfast room directly opposite our bedroom. Although this finished just after 11 o'clock, it had disturbed our rest and sleep.
The following morning we were woken at 7.50 to the sound of drum practice in a room directly under our bedroom.
After discussing our experience with the owners they were apologetic, but did not understand our experience or seem to value our custom.
We decided to cut our stay short and checked out that day.

The bathroom sink did indeed have a hairline crack and it will be replaced. By the time I read the review and checked the shower, the shower head was clean so I can only apologise if the guest found it otherwise. They did not mention the problem to me at any time. I feel (because they mentioned it to me) that the unexpected noise was the main problem they had with Rosemount. The eight-year-old playing with drums at 7:50 am is obviously a nightmare - it was the first time she had done anything like that at that time in the morning and so again I can only apologise. The "social function in full swing" was a small wine tasting which we hold once a year for the local primary school's Friends Association. It was poorly attended, ironically, and was over by 10:45pm. I have to admit I was unaware that the guests had already returned to their (large, king-sized bedded) room on the ground floor. I should have closed the door to the dining room where the event was being held and this was an oversight, but I was unaware there had been any problems for any guest until the following morning when the gentleman who wrote this review pointed it out to me. I did apologise, but I take issue with the assertion that I "did not understand our case". I did completely understand their case, but after the event it was hard to see what I could do. I begged the complainant to give us another chance (they were booked in for three nights) but they wished to check out after this, their second night. It may be that I should not have charged them for the night about which they complained. I would be happy to offer them a half-price stay in another of our rooms any time they would like.

“An Excellent Stay”

I read previous posts after I had booked a mid-week break for last week, so was a bit nervous. In fact, we received a warm welcome and the owner could not do enough for us. They were able to cater for my gluten and dairy-free diet and our breakfast was delicious.

The room was comfortable and the 3 for 2 deal we got from the Rosemount guest house was great value.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at the Rosemount hotel staying in a four poster bedroom. The owner of the hotel was there to welcome us and was very friendly showing us straight to our room with no fuss.

The room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable providing an excellent nights sleep. The first night we stayed, it was -4C outside. You would never have guessed as our room was toasty warm

Breakfast is served from 8.30am to 9.30am with an endless supply of tea, coffee, toast and cereals. This is accompanied with a traditional Cumbrian breakfast of ample proportion using fine organic food which sets you up for the day nicely.

It is nicely situated between Windermere and Bowness about a 10 minute walk either way with restaurants and pubs in each direction.

Our stay was slightly marred by the fact that there was no hot water on the last night. Also, the clothing cupboard in the room were very old. There was no handle on the front making it very difficult to open and once you did get in, there were those hotel style hangers that you have to partially unhook to put clothing on. Once replaced they coudn't take the strain of having clothing on and subsequently popped out each time. We eventually gave up and accepted that we might as well stuff everything in drawers.

These were just little niggles that were part of our stay on what was otherwise a very nice break. Would definitely consider staying again.

“Great place to stay”

Rosemount

My friends and I stayed at Rosemount for a weekend in December and I would definitely recommend it. Our rooms (all en suite) were spacious, comfortable and tastefully decorated compared with other B&Bs I have stayed at in the past and there are also single rooms so no supplements for singletons.
Great breakfast with quality local organic bacon and sausage for the meat eaters and alternatives for the vegetarians. Good to see fair trade tea and coffee too.
Steve and Helen, the youthful owners, are very easy-going (we arrived quite late) friendly and helpful and recommended some good pubs and easy local walks.
Rosemount may not be the best choice for serious fell walkers but it is very well situated as a base for exploring the Lakes. There are also plenty of restaurants in Windermere and Bowness, both easy walking distance.
Generally I think Rosemount provides excellent value for money for a Lake District B&B and has a friendly, laid-back atmosphere and I would certainly stay there again.

I have never stayed inthe Lakes before so I wasn't sure what to expect in terms of B&B 's. I chose Rosemount because it was inexpensive and near to the Village of Bowness . My room however was quite grubby , the carpet looked like it hadn't been vacumed since the last occupants were there , the furniture was old and mismatched . When I stepped into the shower there was part of an opened sachet of shampoo in the cubicle. There was also a stale smell that didn't seem to go when I opened the window. The cooked breakfast was okay , although some of the toast was stale and the staff sang songs in the kitchen about how many minutes they had to go until they could stop serving. I definitely wouldn't stay there again but it may have been a bad room that I was given , if I was staying any longer than 2 nights I would have checked out as soon as I arrived.
