“great room”

Ivythwaite Lodge hotel

21 Mar 2008

Stayed in the skidaw room for our one year wedding anniversary and it was great. The bed was a king size four poster but the best feature was the jacuzzi bath, i didnt want to get out. Everything was really clean, the people were really nice and friendly and breakfast was great.

My husband and I stayed at Ivythwaite Lodge as a belated getaway for my 30th Birthday. We wanted somewhere special and away from the hustle and bustle yet near enough to walk into town. This is exactly what we got at Ivythwaite Lodge. The owners are VERY welcoming and happy to advise on local places to visit. The room, ours being the attic "Gable End Suite" was STUNNING. It has just been redecorated and it looks wonderful with gorgeous dark wood furniture, brown leather chairs and soft lighting under the beams. A truly romantic feeling/looking room.
It also has several skylights which allow you to gaze at the stars in the evenings and at the views in the day. The room also has an amazing 2 person spa/jacuzzi bath, it is HUGE and very relaxing after a day walking around the sights. What more could you want for a romantic break?
I cannot praise this place enough, the owners have thought of everything from the amazing decor/furniture to the wine glasses and corkscrew left on arrival and of course the amazing breakfasts served with a smile and a chat about the day ahead.
We had a wonderful time and cannot wait to return. This is much much more than a B & B- ring up and book it now!!!

“Excellent Easter Break”

Ivythwaite Lodge hotel

10 Apr 2007

We always read reviews about places to stay on Trip Advisor before making a booking. The reviews for Ivythwaite Lodge Hotel were very good so we booked. What a wonderful place to stay. We received a friendly welcome on arrival. The rooms were lovely and clean. The breakfast was very nice. The lodge is ideally situated between Windermere and Bowness - both in 10 minutes walking distance. We had a wonderful stay and would definitely recommend this place to others but more importantly we would stay there again.

We booked the Great Gable room through Laterooms.com a week before we intended to go, we wanted a 2 day stay over as a late Christmas present but got so much more, we cannot praise this guest house enough, it is perfect, fantastic and we can't wait to return!

We arrived on the Friday night and were warmly greeted and helped in from the car park in the rain (which was fun in itself being a sports car). The entrance to the hotel was beautiful, lavishly decorated and had a lovely warming scent, we were shown around and guided upstairs to our room.

The Great Gable room is a gorgeous attic conversion, decorated in lovely pale colours. It is furnished with a king size bed (a small 4 poster due to the roof), large TV, couch and last but certainly not least a large 2 person (at least!) spa bath in an exceptionally decorated bathroom. The views from the room's skylites were fantastic, (you can lie in bed and look at the stars) and allow a nice flow of fresh air. The little details in this room make it perfect, such as the little fox on the rocking chair, incredibly soft pillows and bedding down to the wide variety of items provided on the tea tray which are refreshed daily. The book shelf has some brilliantly picked titles and at least one would suit anyone.

All the other rooms have spa baths and hand carved HUGE 4 poster beds.

Wendy and her husband were very welcoming and friendly, and always on hand for help or a chat. They are incredibly knowledgable about the surrounding area and had a good giggle about our little adventure (getting lost in the dark!). They also provide a excellent breakfast to help you get on with your day!

Windermere and Bowness are about 15 mins either way (left or right at the main road), with plenty of varying restaurants and pubs on the way. Arriving back at the hotel for an unwinding bath being the perfect end to a busy day.

We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone, from people looking for a bit of luxury after a long hard walk, people wanting a base in the area for exploring but especially couples looking for a nice romantic getaway.

“A Top Class Experience”

My girlfriend and I stayed for two nights, for a romantic and adventurous break in the lakes.

The Lodge was exactly what we wanted from a hotel. Its location is perfect with Windermere and Bowness-on-Windermere each a ten minute walk away. Our room was immaculate. Beautifully clean, brilliant bathroom with a great 2 person spa, and the furniture (very romantic especially with four poster bed) and space in the room is better than the pictures on the website suggest. The breakfasts were perfect (cooked, cereal, toast, fruit, youghurts...) and always a great start to the day.

However, the best compliment we can give is to Wendy herself who was a fantastic host, very informative, helpful and always happy to go far beyond the norm. All in all, I would reccommend this hotel to anyone, and my girlfriend and I will certainly be back!
