The Ivythwaite is a lovely, quiet guesthouse. It is in a road off the main Windermere to Bowness route and apart from being opposite a little junior school it is very quiet. As the name suggests externally the house is covered with ivy which lends to a lovely picture. We stayed in room 3 which has a four poster bed and spa bath or air bath as it is called. The bath is large big enough for two and it has a very good shower over the bath. It is nice and certainly of a standard that one would expect in the Lake District if perhaps in need of some repainting in the bathroom and maybe some updating but this is the style of the guest house so anything contemporary and modern would not feel right. The room itself is moderate in size and is decorated to oldy world style with antique furniture and a lovely four poster bed that is roomy and comfy. One criticism if that is the right word is that the floor boards in the house are creaky and this can be a little off putting when you are trying to sleep also you cannot use the baths after 1030pm or befor 8am because they make a noise obviously but somethimes people do use them after this time and this can be noisy. Wendy one of the owners is lovely, very welcoming showing you the room and asking if you need anything, i have a feeling that nothing would be too much trouble. The breakfasts are great, cooked for those who wish to eat heartily and a lovely fruit salad, cereals, yoghurts and toast for those who like a lighter bite. The ivythwaite is a lovely place to stay and i can only imagine it will get even better with time. Thank you for a nice stay Wendy.
