“Bliss in the Bath!”

Having never been to The Lakes before, and planning a trip for my boyfriend's borthday, I wanted to find us somewhere fairly modern but also romantic. What a challenge! Finding a modern hotel or B/B in the Lake District is a little bit tricky...it's all chintz and flowery wallpaper. I found Ivythwaite on Tripadvisor, and with four poster beds, massage spa bths for two in the rooms, and wallpaper that was relatively easy on the eye (compared to all the other places), I thought I would give it a try.

The B/B is traditional, is is not what you might call a boutique hotel, but it is cosy, the rooms are well equipped, the bed and duvet was very comfortable, and I cannot say enough about the bath! I am having my bathroom done up in January and am definitely getting a king size bath....a bath for two is a real treat.

The breakfast was superb, lots of choice and a good quality full English. Wendy was lovely and extremely helpful- I took a bottle of champagne to guzzle in the comfort of the four poster bed, which was fab, and on request Wendy gave me an ice bucket to keep it cool.

All in all....fab place, good service, clean, great bath, lovely stay.

We stayed for our 2nd anniversary and had a wonderful time! The rooms are very romantic with a four poster bed. The jacuzzi was the just perfect. We cannot say enough good things about this B&B. We were made to feel right at home and enjoyed every minute. Hope to go back again soon!

“Lovely Retreat”

The Ivythwaite is a lovely, quiet guesthouse. It is in a road off the main Windermere to Bowness route and apart from being opposite a little junior school it is very quiet. As the name suggests externally the house is covered with ivy which lends to a lovely picture. We stayed in room 3 which has a four poster bed and spa bath or air bath as it is called. The bath is large big enough for two and it has a very good shower over the bath. It is nice and certainly of a standard that one would expect in the Lake District if perhaps in need of some repainting in the bathroom and maybe some updating but this is the style of the guest house so anything contemporary and modern would not feel right. The room itself is moderate in size and is decorated to oldy world style with antique furniture and a lovely four poster bed that is roomy and comfy. One criticism if that is the right word is that the floor boards in the house are creaky and this can be a little off putting when you are trying to sleep also you cannot use the baths after 1030pm or befor 8am because they make a noise obviously but somethimes people do use them after this time and this can be noisy. Wendy one of the owners is lovely, very welcoming showing you the room and asking if you need anything, i have a feeling that nothing would be too much trouble. The breakfasts are great, cooked for those who wish to eat heartily and a lovely fruit salad, cereals, yoghurts and toast for those who like a lighter bite. The ivythwaite is a lovely place to stay and i can only imagine it will get even better with time. Thank you for a nice stay Wendy.

We had the absolute best time. They certainly went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure we had a wonderful time. The rooms were fantastic, and the staff was brilliant. We were getting married that weekend, and they helped us out with several tasks and gave us what I would consider 'specialty treatment' on many occassions. Anything we needed, they would provide for us without hesitation and without extra charge - it was just perfect. I would definately go back again. Anyone going will not be disappointed.
