“Excellent Easter Break”

Ivythwaite Lodge hotel

10 Apr 2007

We always read reviews about places to stay on Trip Advisor before making a booking. The reviews for Ivythwaite Lodge Hotel were very good so we booked. What a wonderful place to stay. We received a friendly welcome on arrival. The rooms were lovely and clean. The breakfast was very nice. The lodge is ideally situated between Windermere and Bowness - both in 10 minutes walking distance. We had a wonderful stay and would definitely recommend this place to others but more importantly we would stay there again.

We booked the Great Gable room through Laterooms.com a week before we intended to go, we wanted a 2 day stay over as a late Christmas present but got so much more, we cannot praise this guest house enough, it is perfect, fantastic and we can't wait to return!

We arrived on the Friday night and were warmly greeted and helped in from the car park in the rain (which was fun in itself being a sports car). The entrance to the hotel was beautiful, lavishly decorated and had a lovely warming scent, we were shown around and guided upstairs to our room.

The Great Gable room is a gorgeous attic conversion, decorated in lovely pale colours. It is furnished with a king size bed (a small 4 poster due to the roof), large TV, couch and last but certainly not least a large 2 person (at least!) spa bath in an exceptionally decorated bathroom. The views from the room's skylites were fantastic, (you can lie in bed and look at the stars) and allow a nice flow of fresh air. The little details in this room make it perfect, such as the little fox on the rocking chair, incredibly soft pillows and bedding down to the wide variety of items provided on the tea tray which are refreshed daily. The book shelf has some brilliantly picked titles and at least one would suit anyone.

All the other rooms have spa baths and hand carved HUGE 4 poster beds.

Wendy and her husband were very welcoming and friendly, and always on hand for help or a chat. They are incredibly knowledgable about the surrounding area and had a good giggle about our little adventure (getting lost in the dark!). They also provide a excellent breakfast to help you get on with your day!

Windermere and Bowness are about 15 mins either way (left or right at the main road), with plenty of varying restaurants and pubs on the way. Arriving back at the hotel for an unwinding bath being the perfect end to a busy day.

We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone, from people looking for a bit of luxury after a long hard walk, people wanting a base in the area for exploring but especially couples looking for a nice romantic getaway.

“A Top Class Experience”

My girlfriend and I stayed for two nights, for a romantic and adventurous break in the lakes.

The Lodge was exactly what we wanted from a hotel. Its location is perfect with Windermere and Bowness-on-Windermere each a ten minute walk away. Our room was immaculate. Beautifully clean, brilliant bathroom with a great 2 person spa, and the furniture (very romantic especially with four poster bed) and space in the room is better than the pictures on the website suggest. The breakfasts were perfect (cooked, cereal, toast, fruit, youghurts...) and always a great start to the day.

However, the best compliment we can give is to Wendy herself who was a fantastic host, very informative, helpful and always happy to go far beyond the norm. All in all, I would reccommend this hotel to anyone, and my girlfriend and I will certainly be back!

Both Wendy and Mike went out of their way to welcome us to the hotel and make our experience enjoyable. Their suggestions for things to do were spot on every time and their recommendations for local eateries were also well-informed.

The rooms were clean, comfortable, romantic and well appointed. The attic room really is superb, with the best bed I've ever stayed in. We enjoyed the spa bath which was more than big enough for two.

The breakfasts are superb, with Wendy showing that she is a whizz in the kitchen as well as a very capable host.

Locationwise, the Ivythwaite is well situated between Bowness and Windermere on a quiet road opposite a Catholic School. The rowdiest tenants we saw were two 80+ nuns.

All in all I would heartily recommend a stay here - you will not regret it.

Having never been to The Lakes before, and planning a trip for my boyfriend's borthday, I wanted to find us somewhere fairly modern but also romantic. What a challenge! Finding a modern hotel or B/B in the Lake District is a little bit tricky...it's all chintz and flowery wallpaper. I found Ivythwaite on Tripadvisor, and with four poster beds, massage spa bths for two in the rooms, and wallpaper that was relatively easy on the eye (compared to all the other places), I thought I would give it a try.

The B/B is traditional, is is not what you might call a boutique hotel, but it is cosy, the rooms are well equipped, the bed and duvet was very comfortable, and I cannot say enough about the bath! I am having my bathroom done up in January and am definitely getting a king size bath....a bath for two is a real treat.

The breakfast was superb, lots of choice and a good quality full English. Wendy was lovely and extremely helpful- I took a bottle of champagne to guzzle in the comfort of the four poster bed, which was fab, and on request Wendy gave me an ice bucket to keep it cool.

All in all....fab place, good service, clean, great bath, lovely stay.
