We arrived at the Applegarth to a very friendly welcome by Alan, the hotel owner. The room was perfect and was laid out beautifully with plenty of storage, a breakfast nook in a side bay window and an exceptional view out over the fells and down to Lake Windermere itself which, although obscured by the tree line, could be seen through the main bay window. A flat screen TV, dresser, wardrobe, four poster bed, kettle, hair dryer, clock radio, telephone, corner bath, shower, and all the usual bits and pieces such as robes, toiletries etc were supplied without question. The room was turned down each day and all supplies updated. Canapes were supplied before dinner, whilst sitting in the bar, and all food and drinks were attributed to the room, to be settled at the end of the stay. The dining area also looked out across the fells towards the lake and the food itself was superb. The menu, although limited, provided something for all tastes and, believe me, we gave everything a try! Personally, I'd heartily recommend the vension, it was SO good! All the staff, whether owner or employee, were very personable and very approachable and I cannot praise the Applegarth enough. It is highly highly recommended on all fronts and we have already discussed returning next year. Give it a try, you'll love it!

We stayed here for 2 nights after our wedding last year. I was a little disappointed by the quality of the room...it needed updating, there was no bath and the bathroom had a strange smell and very noisy fan. The food was ok, not a great deal of choice though and the dining room/conservatory was in dire need of a facelift. This hotel could be lovely but definately needs money spending on it to bring it up to scratch.

My wife and I had a fantastic Valentine's break at this hotel. We arrived on the Wednesday afternoon and check-in was very easy. Our room was on the first floor and faced out over the fells. The view was lovely. There were 11 or 12 other couples from all over the country. Some had been previous years but for many this was the first time staying here. We decided to eat out the first evening as we were having the special Valentine's meal on Valentine's Day.

On Valentine's morning we went on a trip around Lake Windermere on Suzanne and Alan's 50ft boat. It was tremendous. We had champagne and chocolates on the boat, even the weather was great! The hotel is a family run business in which Alan, Suzanne, Kevin and Michelle work extremely hard.

The meal on Valentine's Night was out of this world. All the food was brilliant. The Applegarth has a resident chef called John Draper. At the end of the meal he came out of the kitchen and spoke to all the guests.

This is a very relaxed hotel. Okay, pets and children are not allowed. On occaision that is no bad thing (especially for those of us who work with young people!). We would recommend this hotel to people who want a peaceful, relaxed break.

I can't honestly understand the negative reviews that some previous guests have given this hotel

We arrived late on friday night to an exceptionally friendly welcome. This is a really great place to stay as its in windermere town but its set back from the road so you don't get the usual traffic noise!
The menu has really been thought about and the restaurant had a wonderful atmosphere about it! The food was the best we have had in the lakes!!!!! The owners, Alan and Suzanne could not do enough to help or make your stay any more comfortable! The rooms were clean, comfortable and very lush!
All of this made us stay an extra night which turned into a very relaxed evening in the bar with the proprieters and a couple of other guests! Have booked again for a long weekend!!!
