We stayed for three nights. The hotel itself is marvellous with stunning views over lake windermere. Our room had everything you could wish for.
We only ate in the hotel at breakfast time but what a breakfast.!
You couldn't ask for more. The staff in the dining room were simply the best...quietly efficient and courteous..in fact all the staff we met were so helpful..surely the jewel in the crown of this lovely hotel.
High standards throughout the hotel made our stay a real pleasure Cannot recommend it highly enough.

for the best price here. savings of up to 70% via the english lakes website.

I took hubbie and 10 yr old son in August 2007 for a few days. I would have been disappointed if I had paid full price, but we booked late and got 60% discount. Our room was big and clean. My son loved the leisure club and new outdoor hot tub.

We ate in Cafe Del Lago Bistro one evening, which I would not recommend. Slow service and tatty carpets and decor. We stuck to Pizzas, which were OK, but pricey for what it is and I would not recommend eating here. Stroll into Ambleside instead!

Would stay here again and would recommend it if a "late deal price" can be got

“Got to be the best Lakeland retreat”

Low Wood Hotel

26 Mar 2008

What a place, my wife and I have stayed here several times in the last 3 years and we have never been disappointed. Staff are calm, efficient, unobtrusive and happy in their work and will do anything to help. Rooms are finished to a high standard and the leisure club is a great facility when you've been walking in the hills all day - try the hot tub!
My wife and I have eaten in the Windermere restaurant and the food is very good indeed - try the Low Wood Sticky Toffee Pudding and copy the recipe out of the Low Wood information book. Yummy! Breakfasts are equally impressive with English, continental, fruit, pastries, cereals etc the list goes on. The dining room is a great space to eat in. Get down to breakfast early and get a table in the windows looking out over Windermere.
The Low Wood Marina is a great recent addition where we have hired a small motorboat on several occasions. We booked for 4 hours and set off with a bottle of wine and a picnic all the way down to Newby Bridge.
The lounge and reception area are very impressive, as is the bar. Just one word of warning, the magnums of champagne on display in the lounge may look full but are in fact empty.
Lake view rooms are worth the money, some with feature bathrooms and beds etc. We took my wife's youngest son to the hotel last year and the hotel put an extra bed in a room for us along with a pack of goodies.
If all this isn't enough, on our honeymoon, we actually moved from another hotel just up the road. When I phoned Low Wood to book in at very short notice, they asked if we were celebrating anything particular and when we arrived we found in our room a full size bottle of champagne on ice, cards from the staff, chocolates and balloons. They even offered to look after our bags from 9.00am until our room was ready at 12.00pm so we could go and enjoy our day without having to travel with our luggage
The hotel literature states that they aim to go the extra mile to make your stay special and they certainly achieve this and this is why we keep going back.
You can't fail to be impressed as it feels like more than a 4 star hotel.

Having just read the previous review I wonder if I was at the same hotel.!!

We arrived on Good Friday and effortlessly passed through reception to our Classic Room with courtyard view. The room was fine, warm and well lit.

We had an array of toiletries, repalced daily and were supplied with a menu and details of amenities at the hotel.

The TV had a number of channels and was fine.

The bed was massive - 6 feet square and very comfortable.

We had booked for the restaurant on Friday evening and were not disappointed.

The food was excellent and service impeccable - A really great night. So much so I left the waiter a generous tip - I generally do not tip at all unless the service exceeds what I expect.

I think the set price of £32 is a little expensive. Wine was reasonably priced for a hotel.

The lounge/bar for after dinner drinks was lovely but lacked in atmosphere. Some kind of entertianment should be provided. It does feel a bit like a library.

It does have fantastic views over Lake Windermere though.

Breakfast the next day was buffet style, plentiful and warm. So what if you have to make your own toast - At least it will be warm.
We enjoyed it.

We didn't have dinner in the restaurant on Satrurday night but went for drinks at the Cafe Del Lago next to the hotel. Again a bit quiet but one of the staff played the guitar and sang. The bad news here was that he couldn't sing. He will not be winning Xfactor that's for sure.

The Italian restaurant looked OK and food appeared reasonably priced.

Breakfast the next day was as good as previously experienced.

We would definitely stay here again, it is ideally placed to see the lakes and other visitor attractions.

“Very Disappointing for a 4* Hotel!”

Rambling hotel with lots of extensions - had to walk a long way to the room which was small and not at all of a 4* standard.

The toiletteries in the room consisted of one small bar of soap, small buble bath and shampoo - which were not replenished during our 3 night stay.

The room was cold with no fridge, minibar, towelling robes or menus?

Energy saving bulbs are used in the rooms which are dull and take a while to light up! The choice of TV channels is very poor too.

We missed breakfast on the Friday as it was good Friday and information in the room stated that breakfast finished at 10am, this was confirmed by reception too. However breakfast finished at 9.30am!

Breakfast was awful, buffet style self service (apart from Tea and coffee which we waited agaes for and had to ask twice for it!)
We had to make our own toast even! Only smoked bacon was on offer and the food on the buffett was only lukewarm. If we had wanted kippers or haddock this would have incurred a supplement - surprising in a 4* hotel when prices are dear anyway!
Tables were packed in so closely together that people kept brushing past our table over our food!

Based on this experience we did not bother with breakfast on the last day or with dinner in the evening as we did not want to waste £32 on a set menu!

I have to say that the lounge is lovely, the coffee and drinks menu is excellent as is the service!

Overall I would suggest that this hotel has achieved 4* based on facilities and quality of product or service standards.
