“New Year”

Southview Hotel

I have just spent two nights at this wonderful small hotel. It puts larger hotels to shame with its standard of friendliness and cleanliness. The welcome we recieved was second to none, the bedroom was excellent, we stayed in one of the superior rooms. excellent choice for breakfast, and the position of the hotel is spot on, close enough to the town but no noise.

I chose this hotel following the favourable reviews on this site and the fact that it had the extra facility of an indoor pool. We were not disappointed. The hotel is in an excellent position for the town of Windermere and the hosts were very friendly and provided us with the local information we required. We were offered a very welcome glass of sherry on our arrival and our suitcase was taken to our room for us. the room was small but very comfortable(standard bedroom) and we had no problem with thin walls as mentioned by a previous reviewer. The breakfast was excellent with a good choice and the breakfast service was also first class. Our only complaint was the weather!!!!!

We enjoyed a swim in the pool on both days of our stay and would recommend the Southview Hotel for anyone visiting Windermere.

“Nice Place - Shame about the Walls”

A lovely location - ideal for Bowness cruise trips, walks and the town of Windermere.

The staff at the hotel are friendly, and the breakfast is delicious, including options of smoked fish if requested.

Problems though are basic. We stayed three days, and the towels were not changed in that time. Cleanliness elsewhere was fine, but bathroom did not get cleaned in those three days either. Spa bath was very small.

Pool is okay, but not warm enough for an October evening after a long walk in the damp. The jacuzzi / tub is, if anything, colder than the pool.

However, the biggest problem was the fact that the walls seemed that thin that when the neighbouring couple began arguing about their boardgame, they may as well have been sitting on our bed. To drown out the nagging, the guy put his TV on, and 1am came before it went off. It felt like you couldn't make a squeak without your own neighbours hearing you. A shame, as the place seemed generally nice and accommodating. Get a nice couple either side of you, and the night will be peaceful, and your stay delightful.

    • Any tips/secrets for future travellers? — Ask for a room on the end of a row - at least only one adjoining room then

My husband and I have just returned from a fantastic week at Southview. We stayed in a classic room which was everything we needed. Breakfast was very good with lots of choice, all freshly cooked to order.

The owners are lovely and really helpful. We stayed for my 30th birthday and my husband had a bouquet of flowers delivered to the hotel with the help of the owners.

The pool is a nice, relaxing extra, but I have to say it is a bit cold!

Southview is ideally located in a very quiet cul-de-sac within easy reach of Windermere village which has some nice shops and lovely places to eat. We would highly recommend The Lighthouse (but avoid Gibbys at all cost!).

Overall this is a fantastic little hotel. We would definately return but staying in a superior room as the shower cubicle in the classic rooms are a little on the small side!

“Perfect location to explore the Lakes!”

We stayed for two nights in a beautiful superior room. It was very clean and comfortable, overlooking the balcony.
The couple who run the hotel were lovely and very helpful without being overly friendly as can be a problem at B+B's. Lovely breakfasts.
We used the pool on both days and had it to ourselves both times.

In fact, everything was perfect. We couldn't have picked a better bed and breakast, there were lots of nice restaurants close by (The Lighthouse being a favourite) and it was a perfect break! We would love to return and would recommend it to anyone.
