“Way Above and Beyond Great -- Really Lovely B&B!”

The Willowsmere

Fairfield, Connecticut

The Willowsmere is a really warm, quiet and truly lovely place to stay! It is a beautifully decorated, small and inviting inn with loads of authentic English history and charm, friendly and helpful service, and an unbeatable location to explore the Lake District. It's a very pretty 5-10 minute walk from the Windermere Train Station (which was especially important to us) and a very close walk to the lake (Windermere) itself. Our four-poster en suite room was spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated with quality furniture, linens and decoration, and with many cosy, personal touches. We had a sweet overhead view of the lovely, colorful back garden, which, like the building itself, is meticulously maintained. (Kudos to the gardener!!) But more than all the amenities that one would think to plan or hope for, we were sincerely touched by the kindess and generousity of the owners, themselves. We needed extra help due to an accidental injury that occurred during our stay in the Lakes, and both Martin and Sue, the owners of the inn, went well out of their way to give us assistance. These are very caring, thoughtful, smart people, and we are extremely grateful, not only for our memories of the beautiful inn, its service and the wonderful presence of the Lake District area, but for the voluntary, personal help lended to us during our stay by the Willowsmere owners and staff. (Thanks so much, Martin and Sue!) -- Eileen and Neville, May 2007.

“Great hotel, friendly owners”

The Willowsmere

13 Nov 2006

A great hotel to stay in at at Windermere. The owners were very nice and friendly. The breakfast was very good. The room we stayed in was a good size and the ensuite bathroom was very large, only suggestion would be that they upgrade the shower to a power shower (just missed an excellent rating).

The hotel has a large family room with tv, nice gardens outside to relax in, and a very welcoming sitting room with a fireplace.

The hotel is located about half a mile or so from the main town and its a bit of an uphill walk but nothing most people cant handle. Food wise theres not much about in Windemere, the Queenhead pub does well price hearty meals upstairs. Your best to drive to Bowness about a mile away where the majority of the tourist restaurants are located, though some are very pricey.

We booked a late booking and got a special price for nov, recommended hotel.

    • Disliked — Showers could do with upgrading.
    • Any tips/secrets for future travellers? — Bowness for dining, dont bother with Windermere unless your drinking and walking back to the hotel.

“Beautiful House”

We stayed on a double room located on the 2nd floor for 1 night during mid-Sep. Martin the owner gave us a warm welcome and we enjoyed a cup of tea in the nice garden in the backyard. The room was clean and even have a beautfiul ceiling fan. The lounge area was very spacious and is decorated exceptionally great. The free wireless access is an added bonus but you may have some difficulites in getting connection in the second floor (which Martin had told us beforehand).

The breakfast is very nice and delicious and you can serve yourself with various flakes, juice, yoghurt, etc.

The house has a private parking area just outside the house. The house itself didn't have a view of the lake. A 10 minutes drive will take you to the city of Windermere, where you will find many great restaurants, shops and of course Lake Windermere. The atomsphere is so peaceful and charming, you should relax and never do anything in rush here.

Location-wise, this may not be the best B&B in the area. There are other choices closer to the town centre and have a nice lake view. But the quality of the house really makes up for it.

Stayed here for two nights and found it to be excellent with very warm hospitality and service compared with the other B&B.

“An ideal location”

We have been coming to the Lake District for many years and have, at last, found the perfect location for walking, shopping and access to local amenities. Have stayed several times and look forward to many more. We were made to feel very welcome by Martin and Sue and have no hesitation in recommending The Willowsmere to others.
