A simple thank you doesn't really express our true thanks to Colin & his staff for the wonderful hospitality they showed us during our recent stay. We booked at very short notice & as we were celebrating our Silver Wedding Anniversary, it was lovely to find a small hotel that although only graded 2 star, gave us a 3 star treat. It was our first ever visit to 'The Lake District' & everyone at the hotel made us so very welcome. A special mention to the chef, Simon Jackson, who not only cooks an excellent varied menu, he also bakes his own bread on site. It tasted so good, we have not got his recipe. The cuisine was excellent (both for presentation & taste) & having sampled most off the menu, we can highly recommend this restaurant to others. Chef Simon is a credit to his profession. All the staff were courteous, helpful & professional in their approach which made our stay so enjoyable. We managed to use the local Leisure Club which, although some distance from the hotel, was more than adequate to meet our needs.
We wish Colin all the very best in his next venture & hope the new owners of the 'Glenburn' have continued success at this warm, friendly, nice hotel.

Lovely hotel in windermere which has great food, the room was to a high standard, we opted for a 4 poster bed & jacuzi & the breakfast was excellent although we did have to wait 5 mins for a table on one morning for a table as it was very busy! would go back & would recommend to friends & family, staff very nice & happy!

“A Very Happy Christmas!”

The Glenburn Hotel & Restaurant

27 Dec 2007

We booked a Luxury room at The Glenburn in an attempt to escape the Familly over Christmas. First impressions were that the Hotel & rooms were very clean & well maintained, & despite being a little limited for space downstairs, there was enough room for all of the usual hotel facilities.
The staff were truly excellent throughout our stay, & despite a slight hiccup with trying to use the restaurant on our second night, we were accomodated without any fuss.
Special thanks to Simon the Chef, who not only prepared a superb Christmas lunch, (and other meals too) but who also supplied us with an excellent packed breakfast when we were under time pressure to leave on Boxing Day.
Well done to Colin & his team, would recommend The Glenburn very highly, & hope to return in the Summer.

“Pretty good but could be better”

The Glenburn Hotel & Restaurant

2 Dec 2007

Just returned after a two night stay at the hotel. Our first impression was that the hotel was well presented, clean and the staff friendly. We decided to use the restaurant on the first night and booked a table at reception. The food was good although the soup was very salty. The breakfasts were excellent. Our bedroom and beds were fine as was the ensuit. Like other reviewers we found noise from the plumbing in adjoining bedrooms quite disturbing and the extractor in the shower room very noisy. On the downside we found staff dificult to find on occassions at reception, at the bar and also awaiting entry to the restaurant. The bar area also lacks character, a nice open fire would help.

“River Cottage - Perfect Relaxation”

The Glenburn Hotel & Restaurant

20 Nov 2007

I booked River Cottage in the grounds of the Glenburn Hotel as a treat for my Mom's 60th Birthday. We booked Monday to Friday in the cottage which sleeps up to 4 adults and 2 children.

The cottage is very well maintained and nicely decorated and really lives up to the photo's on the Glenburns website. It has two double bedrooms, and one bunk bedded room for the 2 kids. The bathroom was downstairs and next to the larger double room with the kids room completing the ground floor. then upstairs to a lovely spacious living/dining room. The kitchen was compact but well equipped and the second double bedroom completed the upstairs. Outside there was a lovely stream (nice to hear it when you opened the windows) and a small but private enclosed patio/BBQ area.

For a self catering cottage we couldn't have asked for more, all four of us really enjoyed our stay. A bulb was out when we arrived and the outside light didn't work. But then when a second bulb went I reported it to reception and that night we had all the bulbs working and also the outside light working (so they must have checked every light because I hadn't reported that as I just thought it didn't work). So can't fault the service.

We also used the hotel facilities and always found the staff friendly and helpful. We were allowed to check in an hour and a half early when we arrived earlier than we had expected. That night we ate in the restaurant and had a fabulous 3 course meal. As others have commented the Lamb Henry is amazing!!! We also ate breakfast on our last morning - at £6.50 it was good value and the breakfast set us up for the trip home.

Only negative was that I would imagine the car park could be really busy in the season - quite an awkward shape, although virtually empty in November so we didn't have any problems.

The location was great just 5 mins walk to Windermere and about 15 mins to top of Bowness. A perfect base for exploring the beautiful lake district.
