A truely delightful and welcoming expereince. The house has the feel of a wonderful antique shop but without the accompanying musky smell. To say the guest house is spotless is not an understatement. The welcome was warm and unobtrusive. Ten minute walk into Bownesss along the banks of the lake. No problems with food and drink establishments and a taxi ride home. Fully recommended - we will be back.

I've been here with my wife a couple of times, it's a good place if you are after a quaint English B&B, however at £110 pn it is way overpriced and you can find othe accomodation of similar standard for £30 a night less so unless you really want that four poster bed, you shouldn't bother. The location is good, but again, if you go a little bit further from Bowness town you can get similar places for a lot less.

Management Response
StorrsGateHouse, Owners
(Management representative)
8 May 2008
Since April 2007, (see date of stay), we are proud to advise both returning and future guests that we have added our Tudor king-size four poster en-suite, extended our Jacobean king-size four poster to provide an adjoining sitting room, extended our Victorian king-size four poster to provide an adjoining dressing room and new en-suite with walk-in shower, built a new en-suite to one of our king-size doubles and constructed a very spacious new dining room. (Rooms 2, 3 and 4 are currently awaiting professional photography for our website).

We note that the Victorian four poster was the room stayed in during April 2007, which was prior to the addition of the adjoining dressing room and new en-suite, and certainly understand the concern that the tariff of £55.00 per person would have been excessive for the room as it was previously.

In addition, DVD players have now been added to rooms, with a comprehensive DVD library to choose from and complimentary luxury toiletries by The White Company are provided in all our en-suites.

Should the four posters not be what you are looking for, we offer comfortable rooms with king-size (not standard) doubles at a lower tariff, which in April 2008 were £42.00 per person per night, we hope you would agree, comparing favourably with most guest houses of this calibre. Our four posters in April were £55.00 per person per night and given the space and level of comfort now provided, we truly believe we offer value for money - as is reflected in many previous reviews. Seasonal midweek special offers are posted on our website and also on the Cumbria Tourism official website and when in place, apply across the full range of our rooms.

Our proven occupancy levels are consistently above average for the area, we are currently aiming for an upgrade from our rating of four stars. We put thought, time and commitment into getting things right for all our guests.
Come and see for yourselves – we don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Respectfully

Shirley and Vince.

“Stunning new rooms”

Stayed at Storrs Gate House for the 2nd time in April, 2 new rooms were just being finished, the owners showed us round them, wow! Extremely impressive, one has it's own dressing room and the other has a private lounge area with fancy TV and dvd player, we booked the Jacobean with the lounge for our next visit. Complete luxury, and I loved the addition of White Company complimentary toiletries.
They've built a huge new dining room, the perfect setting for eating their fabulous breakfasts. Plenty of room for all, I certainly won't be knocking elbows with the next table, unlike a few other places I've stayed in the lakes! Also, they said that they should have sky installed in time for our next visit. Perfect location and great value for money, highly recommended.

“B&B Perfection”

Storrs Gate House

14 Apr 2008

We stayed here for a long weekend and could not find fault. The room we stayed in (number 5 at the top) was uber clean, very comfortable and quiet. The room has a very good bathroom and shower. Vince and Shirley are wonderful guests and made you feel "at home" the moment you arrive. Breakfast will keep you going on even the longest of fell walks. Short walk to Bowness. Probably one of the best B&B's I have stayed at in a long time.

“A lovely B&B”

Storrs Gate House

31 Mar 2008

As soon as you walk in, you know that the owners of Storrs Gate House take pride in what they do. Both Shirely and Vince are friendly and helpful. When things are not right, they take immediate action to correct it. The rooms are nicely decorated and very cozy. We stayed in Room 1, which is lovely, richly decorated in burgandy. Although not located right in town, it is a short walk away which makes it more peaceful. Easy to see why this property has received so much praise.
