“The Best Holiday We Have Had in Ages”

Oakdene Apart-Hotel

We just got back from a fantastic week at Oakdene, and I really can't praise the owners enough for just how welcome they made us feel.

I disagree entirely with the comments left on this website, the lady at Oakdene was so friendly and told us everything we needed to know to have a great stay.

The apartment was spotlessly clean, the furnishings were comfortable, the rooms were warm and cosy and the location was perfect - nestled down a quiet side street and literally two minutes from all the shops and restaurants.

We had a couple of rainy days, but the leisure centre passes made sure the kids were never bored and they loved splashing around the pool while we sat in the jacuzzi - pure bliss!

A quick flick through the guest book - not a single negative comment. Hardly a surprise.

I would, and will, recommend them to anyone. It's perfect for families with young children and we can't wait to see them again.

“Great time in lovely apartment”

We had an excellent time in Windermere at Oakdene Apartments. Irene, our landlady, didn't mind our very late arrival at 3am in the morning, welcomed us warmly and showed us around the flat.

The flat was very clean with everything you need for a short or even an extended stay in the Lakes. I particularly loved the cozy sofas which were perfect for lounging on a few of the wetter days. The location in a small side road made the apartment very quiet.

The location of the apartments is very close to a supermarket, a very nice bakery and the world's best carrot cake selling cafe in Windermere. Particularly nice was the leisure pass for the nearby leisure centre that comes for free with the apartment. I made extensive use of the sauna, jacuzzi and pool.

Overall, I would highly recommend the accommodation to anyone looking for a relaxed, self-catering stay in the Lakes.

“Terrible experience: customer service horrendous”

We stayed at this apartment in low season (November). We are a family of 4 and the apartment states on the website that it is family friendly, however this is not the case! The apartment was very cold and we were told upon arrival that the owners charge extra for the gas fire and told not to have the lights on especially not to put the fan on in the bathroom, which actually powers the main light in the bathroom!!

The owner said this is because it was low season and we were getting it at such a cheap price. When I researched the average price I found that it was only £10 cheaper than the usual rate, (we paid £197.00 for two nights accom. I don't consider this to be cheap compared with other apartments we have stayed at in the Lake district. We only had 2 toilet rolls during our three night stay and couldn't contact the land lady to get anything we needed on the first night!

The owners were far too controlling and I spent most of the stay worrying whether my children would break something! You have to do all your own cleaning, even down to the vaccuming and when it came to check out time she asked us for more money for the gas fire stating that we had had it on all day, when this was incorrect!!

I fail to see who this apartment would be suitable for. It was noisy and definately not family friendly but I also couldn't see why it would be suitable for young groups as the landlady lives next door and is very particular about the treatment of her apartment.

The apartment itself is average but nicely decorated however it is too small for a family of four and it was furnished with lots of china which I feel is not very safe when you have young children! The plates were chipped, towels old and I wouldn't consider this as a 4 star apartment more like a 3 star. I wouldn't recomend it to anyone!

We were very upset to read the comments of "Sarah O".
Oakdene No3 has a high efficiency Baxi central heating system installed and the room temperature and all radiators are thermostatically controled and we leave it to the guests to select the room temperature,we even have a coal effect gas fire in the lounge as an extra and most people say it is too hot in this apartment and end up turning the heating down.Sarah O said she paid £197.00 for two nights for four people and this was too expensive, this works out at less than £25.00 per head!
For that they got a two bedroomed modern apartment with a full bathroom not just a shower room,a fully furnished open plan lounge and dining area which is 20ftx15ft with t.v/dvd plus a supply of films a cd/radio.Fully fitted modern kitchen/cooker/fridge/freezer/dishwasher/combi-microwave etc.Included in the price is a free corporate pass to the 5 star Parklands Leisure Club in the Burnside Hotel in Bowness which has a full size indoor heated swimming pool/jacuzzi/steam rooms/gym.I doubt you could get B+B accomodation for less than £25.00 per night, the Yha in Ambleside charges £32.00 per night for two people room only, breakfast extra. From the comments in my visitors book I have to say 99.9% of our guests do not share Sarah Os views,we get the same people back year after year we get many e-mails to say how much thet have enjoyed their time here,we bend over backwards to make sure we offer the best value accomodation in Cumbria, and we do.But my old boss used to say"there is one on every ship",you just cant please every one no matter how hard you try.Our moto has always been "look after your customers before someone else does".I do hope Sarah O has much more success in finding what she is looking for in future and at a price she can afford.
