“Just get there!”

Cragwood Country House Hotel

5 Jun 2008

After staying in a rather unsuitable B&B for just one night (instead of 4) we found the Cragwood Country House Hotel by chance on our way to Windermere.

The reception by the manager was remarkable (don't confuse him with Bill Murray!) and even though we were a bit reluctant to stay there due to the fact that the rates are "slightly" higher than in a usual B&B, the manager (fortunately) showed us arround and convinced us (and we were very thankful that he did)!

The hotel is a former stately home and all rooms are spacious and nicely decorated. The big garden (facing to Lake Windermere) is in perfect shape and you can either sit in the lounge or on the patio to enjoy your afternoon tea.

The highlight is definately the five course dinner (served by the friendly staff) that is included in the half board which was first class.

We highly enjoyed our 4 day break and booked our stay for next year already!

We booked a weekend here in April 2008 for our wedding anniversary and it was fantastic. The hotel was so relaxing and the staff can not do enough for you. It is a pleasant change to find staff so willing, yet unobtrusive. They all multi task, reception, bar and restaurant which was brilliant. The food served is of the finest quality and beautifully presented, full marks to the chefs. We cannot wait for a return visit.

From walking into the hotel, the staff were friendly, but not to full on.They let you know they are their if you need them, but leave you to relax. The bar prices are good, the location is amazing.the log fires are to die for....and we loved it so much we decided it was the best place for our wedding this november...
the hotel in on the waters edge and is a short stroll to the stores of Lake Windermere...if i win the lottery i want to buy it.The hotel has been upgrading its rooms since we were there in september and november last year...so ignore comments from previous reviews..the hotel is upgrading its already beautifull interia, to stunning, you cant keep us away...!!!

“wonderful”

Cragwood Country House Hotel

6 Feb 2008

We booked a mid week break here, dinner bed and breakfast and we had a wonderful time. the staff are amazing, so helpful, friendly but discreet. The scenery is beautiful the hotel gardens go down to the lake, the food is wonderful, and you cannot fail to have a super relaxing break in the lake district. the decor is a little dated in the old part of the hotel but its cosy and traditional, we loved it so much we are getting married here next year.

“Perfect wedding venue”

Cragwood Country House Hotel

27 Jan 2008

My husband and I booked the Cragwood Hotel for our wedding - it fitted our requirements - a Lake District hotel with lake frontage and the possibility of an evening reception.

The Cragwood is a fabulous location for a summer wedding - you can have the ceremony outside in the garden as they have a licensed gazebo. As the hotel is not huge it's also possible to have your guests fill all the rooms and take over the whole hotel. However the bonus is that sole occupancy is not a requirement for an evening reception unlike some places.

The food was excellent - local produce where possible and my guests all commented on how good it was compared to normal 'wedding' food. The bar was very reasonable (which is lucky as the corkage fees here are huge!) What makes the Cragwood stand out though is the dedication of the staff and their efforts to make the whole day special. Oh and the boat trip across the lake in the middle of the day was also a lovely touch.

My only gripe is that the bridal suite - Room 1 - which has stunning views and a four-poster bed, is looking a little dated in terms of decoration.

It's a small complaint though and I would recommend the venue to others considering a Lake District wedding or just a holiday in a nice location.
