I'm really surprised at all the good reviews - our stay was the pits! We arrived and it was completely empty apart from the receptionist, and when we wanted to check out in the morning we couldn't find anyone.
It is really tired and shabby, and I don't think it has had a refurb since at least the 80's. Our bathroom suite was avocado! Yuck! I don't know why anyone would want to get married there! The whole time we were at the hotel we only saw one other guest and one waiter... it was actually rather creepy. As we spent the night in our one lumpy bed in our flowery room illuminated by the crack under the door, I thought what a good setting for a murder film it would be.

Excellent hotel. Beautiful old building which has been kept in appropriate, traditional period style. Rooms very clean and tidy. Staff very polite and friendly. The 4 course dinner is unbeliveable - brilliant top food prepared by top chefs. Gorgeous grounds with access to the lake shore. I have stayed in many hotels in the UK and abroad and have to say this is the best hotel I have stayed at, the staff really take pride in running the hotel at a high level. We went on the midweek deal which is excellent value for money. We are definately going back!

We spent last weekend at this hotel at a friends wedding.. perfect setting, service and food.
If you are thinking of getting married in the Lake District - do not hesitate in giving them a call..
We intend to go back for a long weekend soon...

Despite the rain our 3day special commencing on Monday 23 April 2007 was fantastic. Our room overlooking the lake was wonderful, despite the bathroom being on the small side.
The food was something else,absolutely gorgeous.
The staff were always on hand to supply coffee and tea when required and they went out of their way to make you welcome.
Will definitely go again. We wish we could spend Xmas there but unfortunately we cannot.
