We stayed here for a weekend. We initially were going to book online, but a quick phonecall gave us a good deal for a basic room. We paid £70 a night for what is essentially now a B&B. Leave it up to you to decide whether it's too expensive. It seems there has been new management since June this year and as a result there is currently no bar. There are superior rooms with 4 posters for £84 a night apparently.
The place itself is quite pretty. It's clean, warm and centrally located. It's at the top of the road to Bowness. It's located just on the edge of Windermere town centre, making you no more than a few minutes easy walk from bars and restaurants etc. We recommend you try 'The Lighthouse' at the top of town. It's the one with the big glass windows as you drive in. Book first.
The room itself was ok. A bit cramped with its angled ceiling. We had a TV with about 7 channels and Tea/coffee facilities which were renewed daily. There was also a nice ensuite bathroom and we got clean towels daily. Bed was also comfy and was also made up daily. Cant really fault it as basic accomodation. The heating was on in the entire building which gave it a cosy feel.
Parking was provided however it is limited. This didnt cause much difficulty for us on this occasion however parking is always a concern in the Lakes.
Breakfast was excellent. There were 2 breakfast rooms which seemed to be always full. The staff were friendly. however the Scottish guy running the place did seem a bit put out when i asked for more milk. Made us think whether he was just being friendly as opposed to genuinely nice. The breakfast itself though was excellent, with staff always giving us coffee top ups, more toast etc.
Overall its a nice place and we would definitely consider staying there again. I should comment that the place seemed full for November which is always a good sign!
