“Good B & B accomodation centrally located”

Ellerthwaite Lodge Hotel

5 Nov 2007

We stayed here for a weekend. We initially were going to book online, but a quick phonecall gave us a good deal for a basic room. We paid £70 a night for what is essentially now a B&B. Leave it up to you to decide whether it's too expensive. It seems there has been new management since June this year and as a result there is currently no bar. There are superior rooms with 4 posters for £84 a night apparently.

The place itself is quite pretty. It's clean, warm and centrally located. It's at the top of the road to Bowness. It's located just on the edge of Windermere town centre, making you no more than a few minutes easy walk from bars and restaurants etc. We recommend you try 'The Lighthouse' at the top of town. It's the one with the big glass windows as you drive in. Book first.

The room itself was ok. A bit cramped with its angled ceiling. We had a TV with about 7 channels and Tea/coffee facilities which were renewed daily. There was also a nice ensuite bathroom and we got clean towels daily. Bed was also comfy and was also made up daily. Cant really fault it as basic accomodation. The heating was on in the entire building which gave it a cosy feel.

Parking was provided however it is limited. This didnt cause much difficulty for us on this occasion however parking is always a concern in the Lakes.

Breakfast was excellent. There were 2 breakfast rooms which seemed to be always full. The staff were friendly. however the Scottish guy running the place did seem a bit put out when i asked for more milk. Made us think whether he was just being friendly as opposed to genuinely nice. The breakfast itself though was excellent, with staff always giving us coffee top ups, more toast etc.

Overall its a nice place and we would definitely consider staying there again. I should comment that the place seemed full for November which is always a good sign!

“half term break”

just returned from a 3 day visit at half term. Having read the previous reviews, the hotel lived up to our expectations and I am sure once the new owners complete their proposed refurbishments during the winter it will be even better. Perhaps our only disappointment was that the small bar which had been mentioned in reviews was no longer an option. The location is brilliant, parking easy and a wide choice of restaurants within walking distance (although you need to eat early as last orders in some restaurants are taken at 8.15) we will certainly be revisiting.

“Average Hotel”

Ellerthwaite Lodge Hotel

19 Oct 2007

Stayed in this hotel recently on a tour to the Lake District, so couldn´t choose the hotel myself, it was prebooked by the travel agency. The Hotel is located very conveniently at the entrance to Windermere. To walk into the town of Bowness it takes about 1-2 miles.
The hotel itself to me is just average. The decor of the room is late 70s, early 80s. In fact, the bathroom was quite new, just with toilet and shower. The sink was in the bedroom, which made it a bit complicating to change from the toilet to the bedroom and back all the time.
Tea and coffee making facilities were a nice touch. And although I was booked into a single room I had a twin room for single occupancy which was nice to get more space.
Room and bathroom were clean.
Although e-mailing the hotel to give me a quiet room on an upper floor, they never responded to it and I got a room facing a street and on the ground floor, although they were not fully booked.
Breakfast was the normal continental buffet style with hot food from the menue card.
Overall: next time I would stay somewhere else, closer to the town center and lake, and in a nicer hotel.

Thank you for your comments. We took ownership of Ellerthwaite lodge in June this year, You are correct in your obeservations and the room you stayed in is being refurbished this November 2007, we are moving the sink and replacing everthing in the room, infact we are going to be refubishing the whole building during the winter. As for the email you sent we did not recive it! probably because the old owner had various email addresses on diffrent sites and we have not been able to track them all down. I hope this goes a little way to helping you reconsider staying again.

Having just read some of the reviews, I would just like to add this point, behind every man(as good as you are Roger) their is a wonderful woman! Ann is the lady responsible for the superb breakfast that is cooked to perfection! The room was lovely and very clean.Thankyou both so much for a very welcoming break! Monday hit really hard , after spending a fabulous weekend in the lakes. Could not criticise anything!!! and believe me I tried.

My partner found the Ellerthwaite Lodge Hotel on the web, we chose because of the location and price.

Roger (the owner, waiter, barman, reception.......) was an excellent host, we had fun chatting with him in the bar every evening once we returned from our travels.

Our room had a lovely view, we were told that others had an even better view of the lake.
Parking is ample and to the rear of the hotel.
You have plenty of choice for breakfast.
Pets are welcome, but check first for exact details.

Location is superb, walking distance to Windermere, Bowness on Windermere, World of Beatrix Potter and plenty of shops.

We are recommending this to our friends and family and will certainly visit again ourselves

If you are looking to stay in this area then phone here first, you will not be disappointed!!
