Stopped at the Fir Trees Guest House Saturday just gone and we were most impressed . Owners very helpful . We arrived about 10.30 on the Saturday morning and although our room was not ready ( as we expected ) the owner gave us our keys and asked us to call back in about an hour . So we had a walk into Windermere and sure enough just over an hour later the room was ready , unlike the chain hotels we have stopped at where there is not a chance of the room being ready before 3 !! Breakfast in the morning was cooked to order and very nice . Slight criticism is breakfast is only served between 8.30 - 9.00 which ruins any plans of a lie in !!However i uderstand the reasons for doing this and it does get you up and out of the room to see more of the beautiful lakes . The room was on the ground floor and very comfortable with a large shower and shampoo etc . All in all very good accomodation . One final appreciation was we could only do one nght and despite ringing numerous hotels / b& bs they all requested a minimum 2 nights unlike the Fir Trees , for whom it was not a problem .
