This hotel is a little gem. Its greatest asset is the staff and management. They could not be friendlier or more accommodating. The food is fantastic. Richard is a wonderful chef. Portions are extremely generous. We actually requested half portions after the first night, and found that was better for us. The room was wonderful. It was clean, comfortable and bright with charming decor and a lovely garden view. The bathroom had a tub and shower, and we appreciated the nice big towels. The hotel is only about four blocks from the train station and is tucked away on a quiet street. It has lovely grounds and is very peaceful.
I would definitely stay again and heartily recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the Lake District.
To Lisa, Richard and Staff,
Thank you for making our stay so wonderful.

We stayed at the Hideaway Hotel as we were at a colleagues wedding in another (twice as expensive) hotel on Windermere. We were running late when we arrived, so the owner Richard rang a taxi for us, and provided us with an ironing board and iron in a split second! He gave us a key to let ourselves in as we were going to be late getting back, and generally made us feel very very welcome. The breakfast was great, none of this pre-cooked then warmed through stuff you get at the bigger hotels. It is located about 100yards down a small lane, and about a minute walk from the train station and tourist info place. The only slightly negative was that our room just needed sprucing up a little - but certainly nothing that would warrant complaining about. It was spotless and had a brand new bathroom too! Id certainly go back again, but i would recommend if you want to stay for longer than 2 nights, then dont go for the comfy doubles. Theyre ok for a short break but no longer.
The personal service was second to none and would highly recommend anyone to stay there. Its a great place to hide away ;-) with someone.

I have just returned home from a short break at this hotel. I stayed there at approximately the same time last year. I had originally gone there on recommendation from a work colleaugue who has been there on numerous occasions. The setting is ideal, nice and quiet and a short walk from the main town. The staff were most obliging and friendly and the food is to be highly recommended especially as it is cooked and prepared on the premises. It was great to have quality home cooked food and a good choice of wines, which I must say I indulged in. The room and bed were very comfortable and the bathroom bright and clean. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to stay in a quality hotel without costing the earth. I have been fortunate to stay in many hotels in the surrounding area and believe me this takes some beating for comfort, food and EXCELLENT value for money. If I could describe it in three words I would call it A HIDDEN GEM.................................

this is the worst hotel i have ever been to. Me and my boyfriend booked a weekend away to windermere for a walking hoilday, when we arrived at the hotel we payed for the accomidation , as we where taken to are room we got told that we have to leave striaght away and have a full refund . because in a conversation my boyfriend was having with the hotel owner he told her that he had had 1!!!!! drink on the train ( we had to travel on 3 trains ). we told her that it was 2hours ago he wernt drunk and also we would go on a 2hour walk then return, the owner replied by saying nothing but no sorry total refund!!!!!! we where left stranded with no where to go feeling very distressed and upset. the owners of this hotel have a very hostaile attitude how could any human do that to someone that has come away on a nice relaxing hoilday!? because we had payed on a dedit card we had to wait 3 days for are refund to come through so we where left with no money to pay for another accomidation. The owners of this hotel maid this weekend a nightmare for us.

We booked The Hideaway Hotel through the tourist information in Cumbria and were pleasantly surprised to have found such a fabulous hotel at the last minute!
The hotel is in Windermere, a 5 minute walk to the centre, and is within a 30 minute walk to the lake at Bowness.
The hotel is easy to find although tucked away in a quiet lane. The staff are very friendly and helpful, the rooms comfortable and clean and the food was excellent. We had breakfast and evening meal which is well worth staying in for and very good value for money as it is all fresh home cooked food.
Overall I would definately recommend this hotel to anyone. It was a delight!
