It was a last minute decision to take an overnight trip to Windermere and the local area. Thanks to other reviewers, we found out about The Hideaway.
We found The Hideaway down a quiet, country lane with no traffic noise or fast cars. The building and surroundings are clean and well maintained, there is a good sized garden and secure car park,
Inside, original features such as brightly stained windows and beautiful tiled floor are combined with modern, tasteful decor throughout the check-in, dining and morning rooms. It's big enough to have plenty of space, but small enough to remain personal.
Our room (no.7), was large, warm and very comfortable. Great tea and coffee facilities and a full sized hairdryer!!! We were told about our en-suite having a low ceiling pre-booking but it wasn't an issue for my 6ft husband or myself. By the way, the rooms were spotless.
' A restaurant with rooms' is the description given of the Hideaway and it certainly didn't disappoint. There was afternoon tea and scrumptious cakes included in the stay-a lovely touch. Breakfast-also included was delicious, with a great selection including perfect poached eggs!! All produce was fresh and locally sourced. We decided to have our evening meal at The Hideaway, again based on other reviews and we were so glad we did. It all tasted AMAZING! All locally-sourced and cooked to perfection, a real food lover's treat. (We would recommend booking the meal when you book the room in order to get a great discount.)
Thanks to Thomas who checked us in and was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about the local area. We followed his advice and took the 5 minute walk into the village of Windermere, the half hour walk to Bowness and the 20 minute walk up to Orrest Head viewpoint. All were well worth the visit.
Lisa couldn't have been more helpful and conscientious in checking that we were enjoying our stay and offering more advice about the area. A fantastic hostess.
Don't hesistate, book 'The Hideaway', we will definitely stay again.
