“Yes, it's all true...”

Hideaway Hotel

17 Mar 2008

Yes, all of the wonderful things people are saying about this hotel (and Richard the owner) are true!!!
I stayed in one of the "superior comfy" rooms which was absolutely perfect. I mean everything was great; the style of the room as homely but modern, all the furnishings were lush and perfectly matched and the spa bath was great fun.
That's just the room though. This place really comes into it's own with the staff there. Richard, the owner with his honest, irremovable grin and and his super nice staff are really welcoming. They create a sort of quiet, homely and personal atmosphere which is really refreshing and makes you feel really at ease; not waited on and snooty which could happen in a place that nice.
The food is likewise fantastic, and I would recommend having your dinner in the restaurant at least once. Sharing the hotel's sense of simple honesty, the food is presented with a simple elegance, the flavours full and rich but not overly pretentious. We were also invited for cakes and afternoon tea which was in with the price of our room which was a really nice touch (we actually had homemade cherry flapjacks and coffee!). The breakfast was almost as good as the dinner. It wasscorching, straight of the pan and the locally produced sausage, egg and bacon have redefined my idea of a cooked breakfast.
All in all, this is a really nice hotel for nice people, looking for a top-class relaxing stay, and who aren't looking to be called sir andmadam all the time.

A family run Hotel where nothing is too much trouble and you feel you are still at home without any of the chores to do. Richard lives up to his website claims the food is excellent cooked to perfection and too your liking. Lisa looks after you with her team 24 7. The personal touch so much laking in many supposedly luxury Hotels exists in abundence here will rcommend to all ages and will revisit.

Enjoyed our stay here. Room ok. bit of a walk to the lake. Staff could have been a little friendlier. Would stay again.

This hotel is a little gem. Its greatest asset is the staff and management. They could not be friendlier or more accommodating. The food is fantastic. Richard is a wonderful chef. Portions are extremely generous. We actually requested half portions after the first night, and found that was better for us. The room was wonderful. It was clean, comfortable and bright with charming decor and a lovely garden view. The bathroom had a tub and shower, and we appreciated the nice big towels. The hotel is only about four blocks from the train station and is tucked away on a quiet street. It has lovely grounds and is very peaceful.
I would definitely stay again and heartily recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the Lake District.
To Lisa, Richard and Staff,
Thank you for making our stay so wonderful.

Hideaway Hotel

30 Aug 2007

We stayed at the Hideaway Hotel as we were at a colleagues wedding in another (twice as expensive) hotel on Windermere. We were running late when we arrived, so the owner Richard rang a taxi for us, and provided us with an ironing board and iron in a split second! He gave us a key to let ourselves in as we were going to be late getting back, and generally made us feel very very welcome. The breakfast was great, none of this pre-cooked then warmed through stuff you get at the bigger hotels. It is located about 100yards down a small lane, and about a minute walk from the train station and tourist info place. The only slightly negative was that our room just needed sprucing up a little - but certainly nothing that would warrant complaining about. It was spotless and had a brand new bathroom too! Id certainly go back again, but i would recommend if you want to stay for longer than 2 nights, then dont go for the comfy doubles. Theyre ok for a short break but no longer.
The personal service was second to none and would highly recommend anyone to stay there. Its a great place to hide away ;-) with someone.
