“*The Hideaway at Windermere* - A fabulous experience. We loved it!”

My husband and I have just returned from a two night stay at 'The Hideaway at Windermere' and cannot recommend it highly enough.

We booked the break to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary and since it was our first time away since having children, wanted to find somewhere special where we could enjoy some peace with fabulous food and drink. We looked at a number of hotels, guesthouses and pubs, read reviews and spent way too long trawling through the various options. If you are in a similar position, then stop looking now and just contact the Hideway at Windermere. Seriously.

The (very friendly) hotel owners, Lisa and Richard, describe their lovely building as 'A restaurant with rooms'. This is not just any restaurant. The food was sublime with the best ingredients lovingly put together to create a very special dining experience.

The room that we stayed in had the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in, and the spa bath was heavenly. Little individual touches such as a free newspaper, and homemade cakes were included in the tariff, although we didn't sample the cakes because we needed to save room for our fabulous evening meal!

The Hideway at Windermere is in an ideal location - peaceful and quiet yet only a couple of minutes gentle stroll along a quiet footpath to reach Windermere. The lake is about 20 minutes walk and it helps to walk off the delicious breakfast!

We have recommended this to a number of friends and family and will definitely go back again. We loved it. Book your stay now. I'm very hard to please (as my long-suffering husband will vouch!) but this was perfect. Book now before everyone hears how great this place is!

In summary, we will be back, but to stay in their best room.

We stayed on the 19th April for one night. Even though some booking websites said we couldn't stay for one night, the owners are obviously flexible.

We stayed in room 11 which is classed as a 'larger comfy' and was exactly that.
Althought the room was an odd, triangular shape, it was much larger than other hotel rooms for the same price (£130).

We had decided to eat out, as our plan was to enjoy a walking weekend, so we walked down to Bowness. As advised by the owners, it was only a 20 minute walk (all down-hill to Bowness). When we returned, however, the smells that greated us were amazing. We now wished we had stayed in and ate.

I asked the owner if I could have a look at the best rooms, which he was delighted to do. He said these had been recently refurbished and they looked amazing. Big flat screen TV, king size bed, beautiful furnishings and a bathroom almost as large as our bedroom. However, room number 12 had a tricky spiral staircase down to the separate bathroom that could be tricky for those of a large disposition! The pictures on the website don't do these rooms justice. The other best room (can't remember the number) was out in a courtyard and all on one level, with the same big TV and large bathroom which also had a separate shower, free-standing bath and under-floor heating.

Our recommendation, book at least a larger comfy and then have a look at their best room(s), you won't be disappointed and will invariably re-book.

Our room was nice enough. Nice furnishings, with everything looking almost new. The TV was a bit small (15") and on the wall to the right of the bed, which was a bit awkward to view. Room for improvement here (minor quibble).

The room price included afternoon tea. You can't skip this. The cake was delicious. Also included was morning paper and full english breakfast/cereal/toast/drinks etc. and really set us up for the day. We didn't eat until 6pm that night!

The owners describe this as a restaurant with bedrooms (or something like that). It's clear they pride themselves on their food.

I have promised my wife we will be back for our wedding anniversary next year, staying in an 'Ultimate Comfy Completely Refurbished' room as described on their website. Oh, and we'll be eating in.

Steve.

My boyfriend and I spent 2 nights at The Hideaway in April and thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of our stay.

Due to a problem with the agents website we were upgraded free of charge and our room was beautiful with a gorgeous bathroom.

Richard and Lisa did everything possible to make our stay enjoyable.

We ate in the hotel restaurant both evenings and the food was fantastic, as was the breakfast and afternoon coffee and cakes!

We will definitely stay at this hotel again and would recommend it highly.

“Yes, it's all true...”

Hideaway Hotel

Yes, all of the wonderful things people are saying about this hotel (and Richard the owner) are true!!!
I stayed in one of the "superior comfy" rooms which was absolutely perfect. I mean everything was great; the style of the room as homely but modern, all the furnishings were lush and perfectly matched and the spa bath was great fun.
That's just the room though. This place really comes into it's own with the staff there. Richard, the owner with his honest, irremovable grin and and his super nice staff are really welcoming. They create a sort of quiet, homely and personal atmosphere which is really refreshing and makes you feel really at ease; not waited on and snooty which could happen in a place that nice.
The food is likewise fantastic, and I would recommend having your dinner in the restaurant at least once. Sharing the hotel's sense of simple honesty, the food is presented with a simple elegance, the flavours full and rich but not overly pretentious. We were also invited for cakes and afternoon tea which was in with the price of our room which was a really nice touch (we actually had homemade cherry flapjacks and coffee!). The breakfast was almost as good as the dinner. It wasscorching, straight of the pan and the locally produced sausage, egg and bacon have redefined my idea of a cooked breakfast.
All in all, this is a really nice hotel for nice people, looking for a top-class relaxing stay, and who aren't looking to be called sir andmadam all the time.

A family run Hotel where nothing is too much trouble and you feel you are still at home without any of the chores to do. Richard lives up to his website claims the food is excellent cooked to perfection and too your liking. Lisa looks after you with her team 24 7. The personal touch so much laking in many supposedly luxury Hotels exists in abundence here will rcommend to all ages and will revisit.
