“Local flyfishing know-how”

Mylne Bridge House

21 Jan 2008

The place was great for us. We are an eclectic party of 6 flyfishermen who try a different spot in the UK each year. We got knowledgeable advice and tips from our hosts, all mixed in with a good sense of humour, excellent accommodation and tickets for some of the beautiful local trout lakes.

My husband and I have just returned from a stay a Mylne Bridge House and this was our third visit and I must say it just gets better. We initially found this little jewel through a fishing magazine (hubby is a keen fly fisherman - fishing permit subject to availability included in the price of your stay). Jim and Lorraine are genial hosts and make everyone feel more than welcome. The rooms, the breakfast, the atmosphere are all fantastic. Close to Windemere centre but off the beaten track. A lovely little public house just across the road, where you can enjoy a relaxing drink. However there is no food served (plenty of eating establishments in Windermere & Bowness - Jim usually has the low down on where to eat) and no music - a place to relax and enjoy a quiet drink. We'll be going back next year to enjoy another stay at Mylne Bridge and I personally look forward to returning to Mylne Bridge as soon as we get home! Thank you Jim & Lorraine for making our stay a good one.

“Stay Here”

Mylne Bridge House

25 Sep 2007

Just back from our stay at Mylne Bridge and had the best weekend-even though the weather wasn't great. Jim is the best host and goes out of his way to make you feel welcome and will give you info on the local area and things to do. He advised us on where to eat and even offered to book us a table. The bedrooms are lovely and clean and having a fridge in your room
(with water and chocy biscuits) is a massive plus for us. Although we didn't get to met Jim's wife ,her breakfasts were excellent and Jim's shirts at breakfast are entertainment in themselves. so if your staying in windermere this is the place to stay!!

Six of us travelled in the UK for two weeks in July and stayed with Jim and Lorraine during our 3 nights in Windermere. After the trip we all agreed it was our favorite place that we stayed on the trip. They have put a lot of effort into making the rooms comfortable and clean, and it shows. Every one of our rooms was great. The breakfast was incredible. I've seen several people comment on the porridge, and it deserves mention, but all the food we had was great. The best part about the bridge house was Jim's knowledge of the area and his recommendation of restaurants and trips. Great all around, and a great location in between Bowness and Windermere.

“Smashed the Pancake Record!”

My wife, myself, and our two teenage boys stayed at Mylne Bridge House for a week in August 2007. The full-English breakfasts were terrific. So terrific, in fact, that I had to "bottle out" once or twice and opt for a fresh fruit alternative in order to ensure that I could still get my trousers on by the end of the week!

Our fifteen year old, Stephen, smashed the previous 19 pancake record and raised the ante to 24 pancakes. The accommodation was excellent, and the daily-replenished goodies in the silent fridge in the bedroom were also much appreciated.

All in all, a very enjoyable stay, and if we're in Windermere again, we will certainly look up Jim and Lorraine. One word of warning: watch out for Jim's shirts at breakfast time. Complimentary sunglasses are not included.... <grin>
