The Chadwick's Website gives the impression of a boutique kind of hotel: 'Best Small Hotel" awards and all that. The trouble is that it won the award a long time ago - and it shows. We changed the first room we were allocated as access to the shower was poor, there was a hole in the plasterwork and the single beds had springs that could be felt through the bedding!
A 2nd room was better - with an extra bed - but there were still problems. The bathroom had missing sealant and gaps in the grout. Like other rooms, white melamine with gold ornament was the rule. The paper was textured, overpainted and desperately needing refurbishment. Extra bedding included a nice, vivid, pink nylon quilt...not seen since the 60s. One member of staff [we left a complant] was brusque to the point of rudeness [I'm from Blackpool and do understand the difference between directness and this].
Good things:
The Leisure Centre [completely inaccessible btw to disabled people] has a superb pool/sauna etc - but only accessible by 2 flights of steep stairs. How this conforms to DDA legislation, I have no idea.
The cleaning staff - simply brilliant. They make the very tired rooms acceptable.
The Manx kippers were terrific - the general breakfast was very ho hum: untoasted toast, ration of 2 plastic pots of marmalade per couple etc.
It's so nearly a really good hotel. The fact is though, at approx £90 per night, per room, it's not cheap: more importantly - it's not good value either.
