“Awful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

I booked this hotel over the internet after looking at the hotels owv website. There were no external photographs on the website only pictures of the Lincoln Cathedral and upon arrival we could understand why!! The outside of the hotel looked like a prefab 60's building. Then when we got inside the hotel it seemed to a bit better as they say you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. However the reception area looked a bit nicer but its a shame the receptionist's face and attitude didn't refelect this I don't think there was one smile or please or thank you during our transaction so we we made our way upto our room and things went from bad to worse!! The room was tiny and the items in it looked like something from the 60's, the bathroom was also tiny and the bath that looked like it should've been white once upon a time was actually a pale shade of brown. I've never stayed in a worse hotel in my life and believe me I've been to some places! I wouldn't have let my dog bathe in that bath and I would definitely not recomend this hotel to anyone!

“An above average experience at The Lincoln”

Lincoln Hotel

21 Apr 2008

We have just spent a weekend at the Lincoln Hotel in the historic centre of the city. The situation of the hotel is first-class and close to cathedral, castle, bishop's palace and wonderful little shops. Couldn't have been in a better position.

The cathedral view bedrooms are modern, well furnished and up-to-date and have stunning views of the magnificent cathedral, which looks wonderful when illuminated throughout the evening. We actually had a balcony on our room. Some of our fellow travellers did think that their garden view rooms could do with some refurbishment.

The breakfast provided is a buffet which had everything and was constantly re-filled. Our weekend clashed with other functions at the hotel and we were also in a large group, so the staff had their work cut-out to look after us all, which they did admirably. The service was second-to-none.

The food provided by the chef and his staff was really excellent and served on the dot and on hot plates (other establishment should take note).

I would definitely recommend the Lincoln Hotel.

“Not really sure how to take the Lincoln...”

Lincoln Hotel

Firstly, if a Cathedral view is important to you when you visit Lincoln then do not stay anywhere else. The hotel is right across the road from the Cathedral and the view is stunning.

The staff are also very helpful and friendly.

However, the room we had let the hotel down a bit. The heating system in the room is rather unusual and we were unable to get it to heat the room to a normal temperature. It was either cold or boiling hot. Also it was positioned in such a way that if you closed the curtains you couldn't have heat - not good for a freezing night in January!

The bathroom was nicely laid out but a bit grubby in the showers.

If it wasn't for the great view I would have awarded this hotel 3 out of 5. It's a shame because with a few tweaks this could be a really special hotel because of it's location.

“Great Location nearly spoilt by odd rooms”

Lincoln Hotel

Lovely location. Stayed for 2 days 26th/27th December. We booked a balcony room which was great location overlooking the cathedral but the design left us reeling, odd mix of styles - scandic mirror in the middle of the room, desk resembling a hamster cage ! Bed was large and confortable, hairdryer didn't work, although they supplied another there was nowhere to plug in near a mirror - so hair styling was a bit hit/miss.
The balcony needs cleaning, ciggie ends discarded.
There was one bathrobe despite reserving as a couple, we were told that as mostly business visitors only one was needed ! Another eventually appeared.
Lounge/bar area was warm and welcoming, breakfast was good even though served in the Lincoln room as the main restaurant was in use for dinners and thena wedding. Nearly let down by the tired and stuffy nature of the room.

This hotel survives by location and friendliness of most of the staff.
One caution, which we thought was a joke at first - we were asked to sign agreeing to pay for any soiling of towels, carpet, walls, sheets +++ so was left wondering what type of guest they normally have.

Eating out - can recommend Ginos in the Bail for atmosphere and good value Italian food. The new Grille room at the White Hart has good food and if you go before 14th Feb they have 50% off on the food.

We loved the cathedral bells - very soulful.

My wife and I stayed at the Lincoln Hotel in December (26th-27th) of 2007 and choose a double room with terrace and Cathedral views.

The hotel itself is perfectly situated for sightseeing in the old city
although we were there on a family visit. Parking is more than adequate with a large car park in the front and another at the rear.

As a three star hotel it’s quite hard to pinpoint this hotel into its correct category as it has a confused style! Our room on the third floor was light and airy and clean and fresh. Style-wise it was very confused as it looked like it was styled on a bad day at Ikea with a twist of Disney Land!

The room had a flat screen TV but was plonked on top of a low sideboard and difficult to see in bed without sitting bolt upright! The old TV bracket was still screwed into the wall. My wife and I never did work out what the sloping mirror unit was with little cubby holes set in the middle of the room!

Please, please, please, when will British hotels install Queen or King-size beds! Whilst the bed was comfy I am six feet tall and needed another bed for my feet! The bathroom whilst clean was bordering on needing re-grouting and various bulbs were missing and one hanging out of its socket! Opportunity here for improvement please!

We particularly choose the Cathedral view but it’s not for the fainthearted as the bells chime on the quarter and the hour. (7am-11pm). Make sure your fillings are all securely fixed in! I rather enjoyed the bells as it was a distraction from having to crick my neck
to watch TV!

We paid £129 per night which included breakfast. I warn you now do not
drink the coffee! Disgusting! The breakfast was adequate but was accompanied by dreadful music and I would steer clear of the cooked black pudding which looked decidedly burnt! With three waiters on duty
at the time we were there they need to get their act together! Butter missing, tea missing, hot water missing and no chance of HP sauce or ketchup I suppose! Very hot and stuffy in the breakfast room also. Vast opportunity for improvement here!

Overall it’s very hard to seriously knock this hotel as it will always
win hands down for position. It would certainly benefit from some updating and more attention paid to its customers. Further attention to detail would make a vast improvement to this centrally situated hotel.

For those of you easily offended be aware of a peculiarity this hotel has on arrival as it is the first time I have ever come across this! After doing the normal credit card check in we were presented with a sheet of paper we were asked to sign!

This was a disclaimer form that in the event of our time staying at the hotel we should foul any of the bedding, sheets, towels or in fact
if we should foul anything we would be held responsible for the cost of replacing or the cleaning! Now, call me old fashioned but I’ve never stayed in a hotel that makes you sign one of these before!

Be aware that they do cater for large groups at the hotel and you may be the brunt of a wedding reception/disco under you room!
