First of al the good points. The staff were great, friendly and efficient. The room was large, comfortable and clean. The restaurant service was quick and friendly and the food was good. The bar was well stocked and comfortable.
And now the not so good. Now this is probably largely due to our taste rather than anything the hotel is doing wrong. The Bentley Hotel is a stop over, travellers hotel in my view. I cannot actually understand why anyone would pick it for a special ocassion.
I reiterate that although there is nothing actually wrong with the hotel, it has all the charisma and charm of a polystyrene cup. It is a modern building, faceless and has no character at all.
The restaurant food was good but I did feel as if I was in a 1970's timewarp. We didn't dress up for dinner as it didn't come accross as a dressing up type of place. When we got there we looked around to see lots of older ladies and gentlemen, accompanied by a large helping of sequins.
Having said this, the meal was good (if overpriced) and I would especially like to thank Matt the waiter for the flaming Crepe Suzette. Well...when in Rome.
If you want to get out of the hotel, please give the Gamekeeper pub a miss. This place is a chav mecca. Full of thongs, shaven heads and screaming brats. I sware my IQ dropped as soon as I sat down. Harsh, perhaps, snobby yes, but go in there and tell me I'm wrong!!!!
Anyway, we made the best of being at the Bentley and actually had a good time in the end.
