“Excellent Food”

Washingborough Hall Country House

My partner and i have just come back for a one night's stay at Washingborough hall. The building and grounds are very grand but the decor quite disappointing, we stayed in a standard double and it was very 80's- chinzy decor and liminate flooring in the bathroom, and tired furnishings. The redeming factor about this hotels is it's food- probably the best meal i have ever eaten, it was truely delicious, worthy of a michelin star. Check your bill throughly also; they tried to charge us for £50 worth of drinks that werent ours. I would probably recommend Branston Hall more than this, better value for money in my opinion.

We booked this hotel at the last minute after being badly let down by a large chain hotel. We were a large family group needing 5 bedrooms and a dining room to celebrate my mum's birthday.

They were helpful from the initial phone call and I was impressed to note after arrival that they had a sheet of notes about us to make sure all went well.

I saw all 5 rooms ranging from a basic double to a four poster, and all were tastefully decorated, clean and very quiet. I didn't hear a thing both nights we spent there.

Food was excellent. Breakfast a little slow but very pleasant , helpful staff. Both evening meals were beautiful, good menu, well cooked and presented. They were happy to cook for kids and a fussy sister!

We enjoyed the sitting room and bar, yes the bar is a little basic, but it isn't a pub and is quite adequate for most people.

The hotel is in a quiet position in the centre of a large village, only a few minutes drive from the centre of Lincoln. We all agreed it was far better to stay at the Washingborough Hall Hotel than a hotel in Lincoln itself, due to the ease of parking and peace and quiet.

Would definitely recommend this hotel.

What a shame, this hotel, doesn't make its grade very clear, when I arrived on a quiet Sunday evening, it became apparent this hotel, prefers to cater for conferences and wedding market, and not the couple seeking a few days of r&r

Shown to room that was in desperate need of upgrading, but was given a room change when I requested it.

All staff will ask you if you want a reservation for dinner, but be ware very over priced, you will find plenty of eating places at sensible prices in Lincoln. Breakfast was excellent, but annoying things such a small coffee pots, then trying to catch the eye of staff for a refill.

This hotel is basic, it doesn't go the extra mile, eg no remote control for TV, basic furnishings to name just a few, would I stay again? NO!

“First class stay, Beautiful Hotel”

Washingborough Hall Country House

7 Mar 2007

Stayed here for a birthday celebration. Loved every minute of it. The hotel was full of character and charm. All of the staff that I came into contact with were friendly and really helpful, doing everything they could to make sure our stay was enjoyable. The food was exquisite, I had a vegetarian option made with Goats cheese and it was beautiful. Full and varied breakfast, will set you up for the day. We stayed in a family room, which was spotlessly clean and very appealling. The dressing gowns and slippers gave it that extra touch. Nice complimentary refreshments also available in room as well as toiletries. Would stay in this hotel again and recommend it to anyone.

Just returned from a Friday and Saturday night stay at this hotel.

The hotel does have plenty of charm and character and we enjoyed it accepting that the hotel could never be a contempory 4 or 5 Star hotel. The room decor is dated but then the style does fit with the history of place. I would say that the carpet in our room is ready for a new one but the whole room was kept clean. We had an executive room which was very big, having a Super Kingsize bed and a large TV. White towelling dressing gowns were provided and all of the toiletries and beverages were of good quality including 2 bottles of still and sparkiling waters.

The breakfasts are excellent, catering for all needs and they will certainly keep you going until the evening.

We ate out on the Friday, venturing into Lincoln as the local pubs were too smokey (roll on the ban next Summer). There are quite a few lovely restaurants on Brayford Wharf with a convenient 24 hour multi-storey car park next to it off Lucy Tower Street next to the Odeon Cinema. Just £1 in the evening. We can highly recommend the Mexican restaurant, I think it was called Chimichanga.

We spent Saturday walking around Lincoln. What a lovely city. The castle and cathedral are a must. Parking was costly at £4.50 for more than 4 hours.

On the Saturday evening we had also booked for Dinner as well as B&B at an extra cost of £22.50 each. This was excellent value because if we had just booked a table and paid for everything we had it would have cost us about £34 each. The meal was excellent, they obviously have a first rate chef.
The evening was made even better for us as we had reported a fault with our shower earlier. The staff had tried to fix it immediately but a plumber was required so we were given another room just to get showered. We could have used the bath in our room, which was a spa bath but didn't have the time. For our troubles the staff gave us a bottle of Chapagne on the house to celebrate our anniversay and prior to knowing about this I had also asked for the manager to consider offering us a bottle of wine on the house. I was quite surprsied this morning when I paid the bill that the £15 bottle of red wine that we had last night was also free.

All of the staff were very friendly and helpful.
All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely return though only on a special occasion as we don't normally pay this much for hotel rooms.
