Gosh... where do I start? I could rant on and on and on... but I'll try not to. Arrived 5 minutes prior to check in time so the receptionist was not happy and had to phone to see if our room would be ready! Booked a deluxe room, number 103. Blimey! We just sat on the bed and laughed! Dirty, dreary, fusty smelling with an awful bathroom, TV on the blink, so were the dirty taps and mildewy shower head, cigarette burns all over the carpet the list is endless. Reminded my husband of a 1960's boarding house bedroom. And a bad one at that.
The whole hotel is the same. They just cannot charge the prices they do. £110 per night for our room. Absolutely scandalous. Please, please before you book, think twice. If anyone has stayed in this room, I would love to know what they think.

I’d forgotten hotels like this existed. Shabby, tired and gloomy – and that was just the public areas. Our room had worn-out furniture, cracked and crumbling window frames (as another reviewer noted), a tiny bathroom with faded lino on the floor. In short, the place needs a major rehaul. What was truly shocking (apart from the price - £85) was that it was full. Given the number of golfers around and the fact that there’s almost no competition locally (The Petwood is far better, but more expensive), the Golf is one of those dreadful hotels that limps on and on, never improving, never getting so abysmally bad that no-one will stay there, just continuing to make money for its owners who clearly see no point in channelling any of it back into the hotel. The one positive thought we took away was that there was a time, and not that long ago, when most provincial hotels in the UK were like this one. Times have changed, thank God.

Spent a weekend here in October. The place is clean and tidy interanlly, but needs a huge sum of money spending on it. Rotten window frames, cracked glass, peeling paint and a derelict tennis court bear testament to the owners lack of care. We booked the feature rooms, at the front of the hotel. Large and well appointed with plenty of daylight. The food was good and well presented from a varied menu but the service is sloppy and amateurish with little attention to detail. A pity because the kitchen have obviously got their bit right and they're being badly let down. Throughout the hotel the staff are friendly and seem to try their best but the lack of any proper training is all too evident, as is any on-the-job supervision. A nice place to spend a chill-out weekend, but its a great shame because with a decent manager it could be so, so much better.

Recently stayed at The Golf Hotel, What can i say?

We recived a great room rate as we were part of a group booking playing at the golf course, saying this the golf course was only 2-3 minutes walk away, due to the fact that hotel has it own private walk way to the course, it is the only hotel in town that is basically next to the course.

We opted for the 'Feature room' - tasteful room, very comfortable four poster bed (i wish i brang my girlfriend!) and brand new modern style bathroom.

Service was on par (no pun intended) staff were very polite and curtious.

Drinks prices were cheap, in regards to average hotel prices and food in the bar is traditional good old english pub style.

All in all, the hotel and staffed matched up excellent! - a far cry from the travel inn's and typical BB's found in these types of villages,
