“Fantastic B&B”

Bailhouse & Mews

We thoroughly enjoyed our three night stay during August and would highly recommend anyone wanting accommodation in Lincoln to stay at the Bailhouse and Mews.

The house has been both restored, furnished and decorated to a very high standard. Our room (5) had a beautiful vaulted ceiling. Mind when coming out of the bathroom else you’ll be hitting your head on one of the beams though. The room was comfortable, the bed great with all the facilities one requires of a room. If you like TV in bed you’ll love the massive plasma TV. Whilst the shower cubicle situated in the bedroom seemed a little peculiar it was more than adequate during our stay.

We felt very much at home here having full access to the kitchen to make coffee as we wanted and newspapers readily available. The free access to the internet was great and the front lounge was very comfortable and relaxing. Free telephone calls (excluding international) was also a nice touch.

The car park can be a little cramped but is secure. It’s location is at the rear of the property and we had no problems find it.

The location is ideal being just a short walk away from Steep Hill. There are great restaurants, pubs just a stumble out of the door. Or a stumble back if you like a good drink.

The staff were very friendly, helpful and the breakfast was good.

We couldn’t fault the hotel or our stay here. Pity the weather wasn’t better and there wasn’t more to do in Lincoln.

We stayed at the Bailhouse in June 2006, and paid £79 for a standard room - breakfast was extra. Good points - the welcome was charming, and the service good. Breakfast was beautifully cooked, as it should be for £10 a head, and the bed was really comfortable. But we felt we were paying for a lot of extras we were not using. It's well-positioned if you are visiting Lincoln for the first time, the lounge has got a HUGE television screen and the garden has a above-surface plunge pool. Our room had a private bathroom not en suite, yes, we were warned, but the price of the next room was astronomical! The bed was standard size, not kingsize, the bathroom needed certain safety features like hand-grips in the in-bath shower. Our room was quiet, but the more expensive rooms on the front of the property suffered from the Saturday-night pub turnout noise. Last time I checked, the price of a standard room had gone up - and breakfast was still not included. Nice as it is, at the end of the day it's still a bed and breakfast for nearly £100. We'll probably look round for something a little less bijou.

    • Any tips/secrets for future travellers? — Don't get a room on the front road.

The best hotel in lincoln!!,superb location on Bailgate in between the castle and cathedral. We have stayed in most of lincolns hotels, none as old(1350),as clean or as well furnished as this one.Very impressive polished collection of plaques on the main door,Johansens,Best Loved,AA five diamond.
Our room was on the first floor, huge four poster, gleaming bathroom with bath and shower, very spacious, the staff were superb, very helpful.Only small dissapointment being they dont serve lunch or dinner, just breakfast(recomended!), however there are a dozen or so good restaurants within 1 mins walk.Plenty of choice, chinese, thai, french, italian and even a champagne and oyster bar.
Worth noting is the large free onsite carpark for guests with electic gate, parking in the cathedral area is not impossible but is expensive.
Overall impression 10/10

“OK if you dont mind LATE check in, EARLY check out and not to friendly staff”

Bad points: We were there in Sept 05 the first disappointment was that the hotel check in is 4:00 and check out is 11:00 and the staff wasn't to friendly, we felt the "bed & breakfast you are staying in my house and will do as you are told" feeling really strong, rather be in a chain hotel with no atitud.

Good points: Well located & parking

We were so unconfortable that we won't be staying there again.
